BEFORE AND AFTER
Check your tools.
Check your machine.
Check your work surface.
I recently made a cut requiring 3” of depth and a 1/2” ball nose from High Country Tools just to get that deep - only to get a lot of chatter as the bit hit the sides, forcing me to stop.
I realized more than ever the importance of tramming your machine & conducting maintenance. After an 18hr finishing pass, I found that my spindle connection collar was loose, a plug inside the Z motor causing an error, and just some all around things I should be checking before and after a job.
I got hold of Onefinity CNC for the best way to fix the issue. These folks know their stuff.
I spent nearly an hour with a tramming gauge, 1-2-3 blocks, and the High Country Tools 2.5” Ripper surfacing bit. This was pretty spot on, with a .002” variance in some spots. Not too shabby.
MDF in NC loves the humidity… not.
