They are out and about, please be careful out there.
BEAR SIGHTINGS IN OUR COMMUNITY
Farmington Police Department is asking residents to be aware that we currently have a couple of bears in the community, with the most recent sightings reported near 20th Street.
New Mexico Department of Game and Fish is aware of the situation and is working to safely relocate the bears.
In the meantime, please help keep yourself, your family, and the bears safe:
• Do not approach or attempt to feed a bear.
• Secure trash cans and avoid leaving food or pet food outside.
• Bring pets inside, especially overnight.
• If you encounter a bear, give it plenty of space and do not run. Slowly back away and move indoors or to a safe location.
• Do not get close to take photos or videos.
• Keep children supervised when they are outside.
If you see a bear, please call non-emergency dispatch at 505-334-6622 and provide the location and direction the bear is traveling. Please do not follow or approach it.
