Meet Tara, one of the many incredible people who make CrossFit Calypso what it is.
🥎 Originally from New Jersey, Tara spent her younger years playing competitive softball until a torn rotator cuff in college changed the game plan. After years of struggling with her health and alcohol, she moved to Minnesota, got sober, met her wife Becky, and together they’ve built a beautiful life with their two daughters.
🏫 By day, she’s a social worker who has spent the last six years supporting students in the Farmington school district.
🏋️♀️ CrossFit wasn’t exactly her idea at first. About eight years ago, Becky convinced (or dragged) her into a class despite her firm stance that she didn’t do “group fitness.” Turns out Becky was onto something.
🔥 Favorite movements:
• Double unders
• Squats (all the squats)
• Anything that requires more grit than skill
❤️ What Calypso means to her:
“Calypso is the place where I feel the most accepted, safe, supported, and seen. It’s where I feel the most me. It helps tremendously with my mental health, helps keep me sober, and it’s where I’ve found much of my chosen family.”
😏 Fun fact:
Her love language is relentless sarcasm and loving ridicule.
