Dakota Chautauqua

Dakota Chautauqua Minnesota history brought to life through scenes and songs, both serious and hilarious.

DAKOTA CHAUTAUQUA was created to help celebrate the sesquicentennial of Dakota County, Minnesota, and first "hit the boards" at the August 1999 Dakota County Fair (DCF). After a ten-year run and a three-year hiatus, the production was reborn for the 2012 DCF and has been going strong ever since. Taking place in the big tent by the Dakota City Heritage Village drugstore, the show is a collection of

scenes and songs, some serious, some hilarious, based on actual events in Minnesota history. From the state's roots as home to Native American tribes, to Minnesota's contributions to science, sports, and the culinary delights of fish soaked in lye, DAKOTA CHAUTAUQUA celebrates all things Minnesota with a heaping helping of humor and heart. Scripts by Pete Martin
Lyrics by Pete Martin and Eric Peltoniemi
Music by Eric Peltoniemi
Some additional scene material and songs by Dewey Roth

a little bit of everything, a little bit of nothing, just for grins...or maybe not. As in "a little bit pregnant," this is almost the truth.
