Artist Patricia Simpson is Blackbird Gallery’s highlight artist of the week!

Ms. Simpson earned a master’s degree from Wayne State University, where she double majored in art education and home economics. After a teaching career spanning more than 30 years, she returned to her studies to refine her work with clay.
Her collection features vessels and sculptures.

Cheryl L. Haithco Artist at Potpourri Dreams had the pleasure of hosting a private collage workshop at the Blackbird Gallery. It was a wonderful evening filled with creativity, great conversation, food, wine, and socializing.

Blackbird Gallery is pleased to announce Ron Rutherford as our Featured Artist of the Week.

Regarding his artistic influences, Mr. Rutherford shared the following statement:

“My longtime inspirations have been Charles White, Romare Bearden, Polish Symbolist painters, Rembrandt, numerous American artists, illustrators and designers such as Antonio Lopez, Carl Owens (who was my mentor in high school), Winslow Homer, Harold Neal, Cledie Taylor, Dell Pryor, Ibn Pori Pitts, Whistler etchings, and pen and ink drawings by Re*****on, to name a few. Having committed the past 10+ years to exclusively pencil drawings.”

His artwork has been exhibited in many Galleries and shows including Chicago’s Museum of Science & Industry, Dusable Museum of African American history, Black Ensemble Theater, Solo Show ETA Theater, Gallery D’Estee, Gallery Guichard, South Side Community Art Center, Gorgeous Gallery, Chicago Cultural Center, Nicole Gallery, Tall Grass of Park Forest & Ohare Airport. Most recently Essence Festival New Orleans, Washington DC & The Tom Joyner Foundation Cruise. His work can be found in collections of notables across the country.
