The Texas Art Auction:

David Dike Fine Art founded the annual Texas Art Auction in 1996 which was held in October and became a tradition that Texas art enthusiasts anticipate each year. The gallery has had great success in selling over 300 works each auction, with a sales rates of 82%, 83% and 84% of the lots sold. Consignments for the auction are gathered in spring and early summer. Please call us to contact the gallery with any questions. (*We do not answer Facebook messages. An isolated house is nestled in the evening light of the Depression-era West Texas landscape. Two buttes are silhouetted against the sky. Through the central placement of a red rock or orb in the foreground, Harry Carnohan, an important member of the Dallas Nine, introduced elements of surrealism and an ethereal quality while not abandoning his passion for regionalism. Red radiates from the rock and reflects on the windows of the house. There is a strength and assurance in the composition that carries belief that they would endure the hardships of that era.

Carnohan’s West Texas Landscape (1936) was exhibited in the monumental 1936 Texas Centennial Exposition at The Dallas Museum of Fine Arts in Fair Park. As a crew member, he worked alongside other members of the Dallas Nine on murals and sculptural installations for the Texas Centennial Exposition.

David D**e Fine Art will host the highly anticipated 30th Anniversary Texas Art Auction on Saturday, October 10th at the gallery in Alpha Plaza. The sale will be a live auction and will showcase over 300 lots of Texas Art ranging from early and traditional to contemporary works. Headlining in this year’s auction are two major Merritt Mauzey paintings from the 1930s and 40s, along with a strong selection of paintings by Everett Spruce, William Lester, John Douglass and others.

This exciting sale will be conducted live by auctioneer Jason Brooks TXS 16216. There will be In-Person Bidding, Live On-line Bidding, Phone and Absentee Bidding. Auction guests will enjoy Bubbles and Bites, catered by Rodeo Goat.

Auction Date: Saturday, October 10th – Doors open at 9:00 AM; Bidding starts promptly at 10:00 AM, CST
