It was 90° and humid with sand, stickers, and straw in my sandals—but the smoky haze made the view too good to pass up. Had to paint it.

l never get tired of being near bison out in western North Dakota. The sounds, the presence, the weight of their history, it all fills me up. Grateful every time I get the chance to paint them.

There’s something magical about painting in the Yellowstone-Teton area. The beauty of this place has an endless impact on me, inspiring every brushstroke. This small 6x11” oil sketch captures the alpenglow on the Grand from the Buffalo Fork River, just east of the park’s entrance. The joys of waking up early to witness such breathtaking views are truly unmatched.
