Fargo-Moorhead Symphony

Fargo-Moorhead Symphony The FMSO, founded in 1931, is guided by its mission to enrich our community through live music that educates, entertains, and inspires.

The orchestra presents exceptional performances, guest artists, and educational programs. The Fargo-Moorhead Symphony is now in its 90th consecutive season of presenting live orchestral performances in the region. The organization has roots that go back as far as 1912, but the official charter was drawn up in 1931 under the name of the Fargo Civic Orchestra with Harry Rudd as conductor (from 1931-

37), Sigvald Thompson (from 1937-74), J. Robert Hanson (from 1974-91), Joel Revzen (from 1991-2002), and Bernard Rubenstein (2003-2012). After an intensive search which resulted in 140 applications submitted by conductors from all over the world, the Fargo-Moorhead Symphony selected Maestro Christopher Zimmerman as its new Music Director in June of 2013. The Fargo-Moorhead Symphony Orchestra is the flagship musical arts organization in the region, and is a profound contributor to the community’s artistic vitality and quality of life. The symphony offers the means for more than 80 professional musicians to perform, and audiences to enjoy, an extensive repertoire of traditional and contemporary symphonic music. The organization has enjoyed strong community volunteer and financial support throughout its history. Its active Board of Trustees and a professional staff manage the Symphony’s business and affairs.

We love celebrating our incredible music educators! 🎶 We are so fortunate to have these seven educators, along with many others, as part of the FM Symphony. Their impact reaches far beyond the stage.

Thank you again to our amazing music educators, and cheers to the end of another wonderful school year and symphony season! 🎉

Performances don’t stop at school for our music educators. Many teachers are active performers in the region as well.! Seven West Fargo educators are members of the Fargo-Moorhead Symphony Orchestra, which recently finished its 2025-2026 season with a concert featuring works by Italian composer Giacomo Puccini!
