Busy in PEARS yesterday watching the creative energy of artist Chakaia Booker with master printer Justin Sanz, assistant printer Amanda Heidt and several SODAA student helpers! As Chakaia said, “It truly takes a village.” They proofed twenty laser cut embossment blocks, then explored interaction between a chine colle’d litho and the various embossed imagery. Today they consider which version to refine and edition. Remember to visit Plains Art Museum tonight for the artist’s talk and a look at her exhibition!

A huge thank you to Augustana’s Art department for their royal treatment last Thursday and to all those able to attend the opening reception of “A Quiet Voice Heard.” Thanks to Dr. Lindsay Twa for her invitation and coordination, to Chad Nelson and Augie’s Print Club for allowing me to visit their steamroller printing and speak with the printmaking class and with students from Brandon HS. Special thanks to our gracious host John Peters, our friend and Augie classmate and his wife Deb who transported the artwork, toured us about, and made us feel at home. And to John and to his senior seminar class who expertly installed the exhibition. Augie has a beautiful campus and art facility, but most importantly warm and caring people. So, I encourage you to check out the exhibition that runs through November 6th.

Looking forward to the show at Augustana University tomorrow!
