We are performing the beautiful choral movements (mvt. 1 and 6) from Aus tiefer Not, BWV 38, at our concerts on July 26 and Aug. 8 (both at 7:30 at Immanuel Lutheran Church). The opening text, "Out of deep anguish I call to you, Lord God, hear my cries," is given a comforting answer in the last movement, "Though in us the sins are many, in God there is much more grace; His helping hand has no bounds."

2024 is the 500th Anniversary of the first hymnal.

Christians sang hymns before this, (Col 3:16) but with the invention of the printing press, and the rediscovery of the gospel in the time of the reformation, the church grew up singing the hymns of Martin Luther, Paul Serratus, and the like.

Join us for a bible study beginning next Sunday June 30th on this hymnal published in 1525 in Wittenberg Germany. Our first hymn is the first hymn Luther ever wrote for congregational singing.

Also, be sure to attend the Bach Choir concert on that same hymnal Thursday August 8th at Immanuel

Tenor and bass spots are open for the FMBC summer concerts. Auditions are Thurs., June 6, 4:00-6:00pm, and Sat., June 8, 10:00am-Noon. Highlights include Bach's "St. Anne" Prelude and Fugue (included at the beginning and end) with organist Benton Schmidt, Bach cantata Gottes Zeit ist die allerbeste Zeit (God's time is the best time, BWV 106, Actus Tragicus - starts at 30:00), and beautiful Evening Prayer liturgy. We're thankful for another great collaboration with the Red River Valley Chapter of the American Guild of Organists and for excellent host congregation St. Andrew Lutheran Church LCMS - West Fargo, ND!
