Back at it, painting 2022 begins... I thought I'd share the behind the scenes view of how I make a watercolor come to life. It starts with an image or something I've noticed, in this case it was a beautiful farmhouse I saw while taking a walk this past Fall in Carlisle, MA.
I start with a sketch of the scene, then focus on the detailed items like the farmhouse, next are the broader areas like the leaves on the trees, the sky, grasses in the foreground, and finally the finishing touches with tree trunks, plants around the houses, etc. No two paintings are alike but my process is usually the same.... but not always!
