Mary Hogan is a landscape photographer and encaustic artist who lives in Falls Mills, Virginia. She has been photographing the world around her for more than 40 years, using the camera to share the beauty she sees with others. She states, “I love the feeling that the encaustic medium (natural beeswax and Damar resin) brings to a pho

tograph. It adds depth, texture and a dream-like quality that inspires me.”

Originally from a small town in Arizona, Mary has lived in places as diverse as Quemado, New Mexico (population 250), Rockville, Maryland and Manhattan’s Upper West Side. She moved to Tazewell County, Virginia from Texas in 2021. Recent awards include:

Just finished my latest encaustic vase -- "Seasons"! Although many people only think of vases for spring and summer, I hope this (and other autumn and winter vases) will inspire you to have arrangements year round! "Seasons" is an 8" encaustic-on-glass vase, and is available for $40 (plus shipping, if applicable). What do you think of vases showing different seasons?

NOTE: I have begun using AI to stage my vases to help people visualize the possibilities. I will always include a photo of the vase without staging for a real-life view.

Celebrating encaustic painting with molten beeswax on this Wax Art Wednesday! Although I have been painting mostly vases lately, just a reminder that I also have paintings on cradled birch panels. Here’s an example—“Sails” is a 16” x 20” painting where I used a method of painting layers of encaustic paint onto the wood, then scraping down in certain areas to expose the colors beneath. “Sails” is currently available at Between Friends Gifts in Tazewell, Virginia. Enjoy!
