There was no wind in the canyon, but up at the turnout, it was gusting, and it shook my tripod. I spread my coat to make a windbreak and took shot after shot. Out of all the attempts, this was the only one with the rocks and trees sharp and the water soft from the time exposure.

I couldn't help but feel sorry for this young Grizley. He was way too comfortable around us humans, and that made one of us. He passed too close to the group of photographers I was in and climbed up on a granite boulder after a swim in the Lamar River. The Ranger decided he needed to be hazed and shot him in the butt with a 12 ga bean bag, painful but not damaging. Before he did this, he told us photographers to pack together so we looked like one big critter, because he said. "I have no idea what he will do when I pop him." How comforting, I thought. He just jumped off the rock and took off, giving us all this, "What did I do look."

I see this fellow every morning, but he is usually far off and vigilant. This morning, he lit in one of his favorite fishing perches relatively close, and there was a hole I could shoot through. Gotcha! you stealthy bird.

I saw the Mink this evening, but she was gone by the time I got the camera and went out there. Big Blue was behind the weir, and he took off. The light was very poor, so my auto ISO set the exposure at 3200 ISO, f8 at an eightieth of a second, and that is very slow for a flying Heron. Out of seven shots, this was the only keeper.

These Falls are just up the road from Adel, Oregon. On our way home from Steens Mountain, we have seen it in everything from a flood to a trickle. I crossed the road and set up my tripod to get this shot with soft, blurred water.

Here is a progress report on my Bighorn Sheep painting. I'm pleased so far; if I live long enough, I'll finish it. I enjoyed painting the sheep, but the rocks are tedious, less fun, and essential to the composition.

We hiked to the mouth of Blitzen Gorge. It was a shakedown for my prosthetic hip, about a mile in. There were a lot of ups and downs, and we all did well. Pepper complained a lot, but it was hot, and his black coat was not removable. We saw several of these Praying Mantis. One pair was mating, and I recalled what my father advised about relations with the Opposite s*x. "Don't lose your head," he said.

Just got back from Steens Mountain. We caught the Hollywood Herd show; as usual, it was great entertainment. If you stay long enough and take enough shots, you'll get one you like. This was my pick.

Once more in the Serengeti. I love this composition. The Leopard is so relaxed it almost seems to be melting. Sometimes, I dream of Africa; it was costly, so we only had one shot at it and did our best to make the most of it.

Here is where I am as of today. I was fascinated by the pattern of the hair, so I tried to represent it as best I could. It turns out it looks kind of like van Gogh's style. It wasn't intentional, and I'll probably soften it later with a transparent wash. I'm enjoying painting more as I go and relearning a lot. My style is still unconventional, but then so am I.
