I have begun hiking regularly in the Columbia Gorge after years of sporatic treks. I hiked to Upper Latourell Falls this morning, and developed the film when I got home. It was a film-only hike, just like old times. I did not take the digital camera along, so I was left with my old method of a handheld meter, which would have served me well if I would have let it. I second-guessed the meter, thinking that the scene was 5 stops below full sun. It turns out that it was 7 stops. Luckily, I bracketed. This was an 11-second exposure.

Lens: 50mm Zeiss Distagon with compendium shade and a yellow # 12 Wratten filter.

The pandemic may be reaching its conclusion if enough people get vaccinated, so I am hopeful that I can get something going with this page, and actually open a photography business. I have been waffling a little about opening a photography studio in the little storefront in the front of the house. We are considering nixing the idea, and turning it into a darkroom. I haven’t decided. The darkroom idea would be difficult due to the amount of window space to cover, and being next to the sidewalk. I wouldn’t want the picture window to be an eyesore.

Not sure what’s happened with Facebook, but this page stopped showing up on my choices of which page to view. Has this happened to anyone else? I’ve let this page lay fallow for years, but I planned to revamp it when I open my photography studio.

I’ve been quiet on this page for a while, but I will likely be reviving it soon if I can get my photography studio going this summer. It will be the official page for the art gallery too. We’ll see how that goes. More to come.

Hopefully.

“Stars and Bars Sunset, Biggs Junction, Oregon.”

A cold wind was blowing, and our coats didn’t do much good. Nevertheless, we braved the elements to get about 20 minutes of one of the best sunsets I’ve caught with a camera.

This was a really difficult edit, but I’m learning hw to do it. It is not HDR. Bringing the values of the foreground, which was all silhouette, up to where detail could be seen, while not losing the intensity of the sunset took some doing. My main concern was that it didn’t look fake.

“Latourell Bridge on the Historic Columbia River Highway, Oregon.” I decided to play with this one a bit. Water on the lens made it unusable for my stock portfolio.

Camera: Nikon D810
Lens: Vintage 35mm Nikkor

Effects: Nik Collection, and the Orton Effect.
