COIN LOSS: The United States ended production of the penny on Wednesday. For more than 230 years, the penny has circulated through American piggy banks and cash registers. But rising production costs – each penny now costs nearly 4 cents to make – and shifts in consumer behavior have made it impractical to keep producing them.

SALUTES ACADEMY AWARD WINNER SEAN BAKER ON HIS MOVING OSCAR SPEECH

IN SUPPORT OF INDEPENDENT THEATRES AND DRIVE-INS

Sean Baker, winner of a record four Academy Awards in 2025, used his acceptance speech for winning Best Directing Oscar for his film “ANORA” to recognize the joy and magic that films shown in movie theatres brings to movie-goers. He honored the significance of the theatrical movie-going experience as “more important than ever” and even warned that “…Right now the theater-going experience is under threat. Movie theaters, especially independently owned movie theaters, are struggling and it’s up to us to support them.” His words bear special significance to Drive-In Theatre owners, most of whom operate their outdoor theatres as a passion project because they fell in love with movies and the theatrical experience.

Sean Baker issued his “Battle Cry” to the movie watching world, “…Please watch movies in the theatre and let’s keep the great tradition of the movie-going experience alive and well.” Sean Baker’s words are truly inspirational and brought tears of gratitude to the eyes of many independent Drive-In and Indoor Movie Theatre owners.

As nearly all of the almost 300 Drive-In Theatres across the country are independently owned and operated as small businesses, Sean Baker’s words are especially encouraging and heartening to Drive-In Theatre owners. The Drive-In Theatre is a beloved American tradition of movies under the stars that is still as relevant as ever. Even more importantly the Drive-In Theatre provides a magical theatrical experience for your entire family so children can learn and understand the value of not only watching a movie on the “Big Screen” but also know the value of time with friends and family. To echo Sean Baker’s words, “…parents, introduce your children to feature films in movie theatres and you’ll be molding the next generation of movie lovers and film makers…”

Drive-In Theatre owners across the country congratulate Sean Baker on his phenomenal win of four Academy Awards and gratefully thank him for using his time on stage to provide encouragement, support and appreciation of Independently Owned Drive-In and Indoor Theatres.
