We have an exciting week at Cinema Fairfield with TWO movies this week! First up... “You Had To Be There,” a doc about about how a dozen Canadian comedy legends from Martin Short to Gilda Radner came to be in a hit production of Godspell the musical, that launched all their careers back in 1972.

The second film is “Practical Magic 2” - bringing the witchy vibes with Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock.

The World Needs More Pie! 🥧💛

Join us on Friday, November 14th at 7 pm for the "taste-good, feel-good film of the year" (Little Village)!

PIEOWA: A PIECE OF AMERICA, a feature documentary, celebrates the myriad ways pie is woven into Iowa’s (and America’s) culture, the lengths people will go to for a slice, and how this humble pastry can bake the world a better place. Audiences and critics agree that “it’s a tonic for what ails us.” The film features comedian Tom Arnold, NPR economics correspondent Scott Horsley (NPR = No Pie Refused), Better Homes & Gardens food editor Jan Miller, among other notable names, alongside everyday people — church ladies, farm wives, pie shop owners, State Fair pie competitors, chefs, food historians, RAGBRAI bike riders, and humanitarians of all ages. Wholesome and humorous, it will leave you feeling more hopeful about the world — and hungry for pie.

Stick around for a post-screening Q&A with the Director, Producer, and Writer — Iowa's own Beth M. Howard. Learn more and get advance tickets at https://fairfieldacc.com/event/pieowa-a-piece-of-america/

We love "shopping local!"

Fairfield filmmaker Amine Kouider will present a special screening of "THE LAND OF NOTHING," a new surrealist short film ten years in the making, on Saturday, June 7 at 7:30 PM at Cinema Fairfield.

The film weaves poetic imagery and dreamlike storytelling to follow a poet’s search for his lost muse through a vibrant, colorful, and mystical landscape where the threads between worlds are thin and the boundaries of reality begin to blur.

*This film was created as part of the David Lynch MFA in Filmmaking at Maharishi International University and supported by a grant from the Iowa Arts Council.*

The screening will include some of Amine's other creative work and will be followed by a Q&A session with the filmmaker. Admission is free! Learn more here: https://fairfieldacc.com/event/short-film-the-land-of-nothing-by-amine-kouider/

Game changer alert! 👀

A wondrous journey, through realms natural and mystical, FLOW follows a courageous cat after his home is devastated by a great flood. Teaming up with a capybara, a lemur, a bird, and a dog to navigate a boat in search of dry land, they must rely on trust, courage, and wits to survive the perils of a newly aquatic planet.

From the boundless imagination of the award-winning Latvian filmmaker Gints Zilbalodis (Away) comes this thrilling animated spectacle as well as a profound meditation on the fragility of the environment and the spirit of friendship and community. Steeped in the soaring possibilities of visual storytelling, FLOW is a feast for the senses and a treasure for the heart.

This dialogue-free, deeply moving cinematic adventure is hailed by critics as “mesmerizing” & “magical” (Metacritic), “the year’s best animated movie” (Screen Rant), and “an experiential experiment in empathy, eco-activism and elation over the creative possibilities of a medium” (Rolling Stone).

We think it might well be groundbreaking. See it for yourself this weekend only at Cinema Fairfield!
