Sagovac Studio

Sagovac Studio I was first introduced to throwing and ceramics more than 20 years ago. Pottery has been a way for me to create and relief stress from my daily life.

As a nurse with a science background, I enjoy the technical aspects of pottery from making the wheel thrown form to picking out the perfect glaze to complement the piece. The studio is my happy place.

I have not had the motivation to do as much pottery as I liked... I finally made myself fired all the greenware that had been around and started glazing for 1 more glaze firing last weekend. However, the process is slow. Thought i would be done by now.... hahaha but I don't even have enough for a couple shelves.

It is rare that I get to turn back time... and finish pieces that I started over 10 yrs ago. (These mugs were from my days at Forest Park Community College studio). Note that they are signed "LU 1.15".

I just made a small batch of my favorite combo to be dropped off tomorrow at Webster to be reduction fired at cone 10. I've got a box of unfinished cone 10 bisqueware so who knows!

Thing are drying very slowly in the studio, which is surprising as humidity level in the colder months is less than 40%... so I'm putting it under a vent by the bathroom. Maybe it'll dry faster?

I've smooth out the edges. Still contemplating whether i should try for a single firing with bisqued ware as I don't have enough greenware for a bisque firing in the next 2 weeks.

It would be nice for them to be ready for the event in 2 weeks... but part of me says its not worth the rush.

Not all parts of pottery is glamorous... especially reclaiming clay.

All the throwing water, clay scraps, and trimmings are reused by first going into a reclaim bucket. It becomes a smelly slurry and once enough water evaporates, it is placed on a plaster board where the plaster help pull the remaining water out of the clay. The clay is then wedged into even consistency and ready to use.

This process is labor intensive... but what worries me is the fact that I share the studio with my two barn kitties. Let's hope they don't play with the wet clay. 😜
