Speak Easy

I remember this artist. It wasn’t their first portrait. They said that the first time they sat in front of the canvas they were afraid to speak…and then they saw the courageous expression in other portraits and promised themselves they would speak freely next time.

Permission and space to Speak Easy. Every emotion has a voice. When we shut down some emotions they don’t disappear, they scream louder in frustration.

When we allow ourselves to express the range of our emotions with compassion we can find balance and alignment.

PROUD to be ourselves.

AS I AM is a global art initiative in which over 10,000 individuals have created anonymous self portraits of their inner dialogues.

For as long as I can remember my Mother has always told the stories of her lineage as we turn the pages of old photo albums. I only have life experience with one Grandfather I wondered what if the photos could talk, and how that might help me understand the stories that shape my own.

The Heirloom is an experience of recording the stories of ancestors and making them available for their families now and for future generations.

200 students at traced each other into four 15’ HumaniTree canvases. Then it’s my turn to make all the connections in our creative partnership. These trees will hang in the redwoods tomorrow.

The NIGHT partners with the Moon, can one shine without the other? The exhale is the expiration that partners with the inspiration, they breathe each other.

This art invites you to consider death as a generative force for life. We must empty so that we can fill in a manner that maintains dynamic equilibrium within and between complex systems.

I stood with people and we chatted about our current culture and the denial of death as a relational equivalent of denying the breath it’s exhale. To do so creates a system stuck on its consumption phase.

Why fear the space that exists between the structures? The uncertainty, the mystery, is where the Creative Spirit dwells and dances in harmony with the polarities that define the in-between.

Partnership rather than domination. Shared vision and unattached collaboration.

It is important to me to maintain symmetry within every piece I build. I powered the piece with solar, the sun as regenerative light ☀️ It wasn’t easy! I spent many hours huddled over the wiring harness and with all the parts that move electrons.

Burning Man Project has an “in house” renewable energy team called RAT as part of a global community of experts - I got to learn about solar power from the cream of the crop at the Alternative Energy Zone ! It was my own “fire” to light the art while in the dark ♥️🔥.

How do we learn to listen again to the wisdom of a Living Earth?

Art is a translational tool to integrate indigenous wisdom into western culture.

The Eternal Inquiry is a project that examines balance within dynamic interdependent relationships, and explores death as a generative force for LIFE.

The art installation is the opening dialogue and an artistic representation of the ritual of re-birth experienced within an indigenous sweat lodge.

The path to rebirth is to learn to receive rather than reject the heat of transformation.

We become it.

Explore the space that the structure holds. That is where the Creative Spirit speaks.

Too much structure = no space.

Climb a tree.

Play and make things as the Wise Child.

Wise rather than reckless ♥️.

We are building art that explores how we consume - ourselves, each other, and the natural world.

Art and the courageous moment.

If you have ever made something meaningful, you have likely experienced the bliss of creativity as well as the excruciating vulnerability of sharing what has been created.

For me, I feel like a child with a crayon drawing, heart wide open wondering, “Will you like me? Love me and be my friend? “ How will you hold my Soul and creative spirit?

It’s not like sharing a commodity. To share what has already been made or externalized to an algorithm feels safe because we externalization the risk.

Every time I overcome the moment of “Truth” I become more courageous and confident speaking from my heart.

In honor of the creative spirit I am sharing the art of . We had a beautiful conversation about art and courage last week. I just purchased these jaguar earrings - seemed appropriate! So powerful.

The art of Becoming wild in nature…

We are excited to have you join us this Friday as we create a collaborative Human_I_Tree. You’ll sprout new connections during a guided experience led by lead artist Sharon DeMattia. While we are creating, enjoy some incredible homemade hot apple cider crafted and simmered all day by Medicine Woman, Rhea Costine.

We share 50% of our DNA with trees, 80% with whales, and 40% with honeybees. In a world filled with disconnection and polarity, what would happen if we experienced deeper connections related to how we are the same?

We live, breathe, and play with the trees. Imagine 15 ft of canvas in which people trace each other as roots, branches, and trunk. What does it feel like to hold a nest, grow fruit, and communicate through our diverse biosphere? I think it would feel amazing.

Our tree will become a part of our growing forest within the Earth Room of The Mother Exhibit.
