Wild Shore New Music Adventurous new chamber music in Homer, Alaska

Wild Shore presents adventurous new chamber music amidst glaciers, volcanoes, 24-foot tides and endless summer days in Homer, Alaska. Dedicated to the communities around Kachemak Bay, Wild Shore also fosters collaborations between the best classically-trained musicians in the US and the extraordinarily creative writers and artists working on the Kenai Peninsula. Wild Shore aims to develop a lastin

For its 12th season, Wild Shore New Music honors acclaimed composer Eve Beglarian, whose fearless and genre-defying work explores themes of place, identity, and belonging. Known for her bold, innovative spirit, Beglarian has been praised for her sensuality and experimentation. The Los Angeles Times called her a “humane, idealistic rebel,” while the New York Times lauded her ability to translate landscapes into evocative music. At the center of the 2025 season is a new commission developed during Beglarian’s May residency at Bunnell Street Arts Center in Homer, Alaska, and her travels through the interior up to Fairbanks inspired by the region’s landscape and cultural richness.

The commissioned work will premiere in September/ October 2025, performed by Wild Shore’s founding musicians-- Katie Cox (flute), Andie Tanning (violin), and Conrad Winslow (piano)—joined by Miriam English Ward (viola), James Moore (guitar), Mariel Roberts (cello), and beglarian herself on voice. The program will also feature earlier works by Beglarian, including Peggy in the Twilight and a new interpretation of Wolf Chaser, which incorporates a traditional Inupiaq whale baleen tool gifted to the composer.

This season emphasizes community engagement, with young violinists from across Alaska joining the ensemble to perform Beglarian’s Baby-Angel Barcarolle. In addition, a participatory “Mass Appeal” series invites local musicians of all skill levels to collaborate with Wild Shore artists on inclusive, open-instrumentation works from Beglarian’s catalog.

Together, these performances reaffirm Wild Shore’s commitment to bold artistry, deep listening, and celebrating the profound resonance of music rooted in place.

Wild Shore ‘24 is a wrap!

We had a packed season with three Main Stage concerts, three school concerts, one concert at a senior center, two artist talks, a visit with university students, and a reading session, all while traveling over 500 miles across Alaska!

Our program, centered around the music of Raven Chacon, moved audiences and changed all of us. It was a gift to dive so deeply into his music, to complement it with the music of Leilahua Lanzilotti, George Rochberg, and Timo Andres, and to build a program that encouraged us to explore ideas around identity, place, and colonization.

We’d like to extend a huge thank you to our 2024 featured artist, Heidi Senungetuk, for sharing her wisdom and artistry with us and our communities. It was a truly special season.

And huge thank yous to everyone who made this season a success: David Pexton Charly Akert Asia Freeman Bunnell Street Arts Center Anchorage Museum Sean Dowgray Timo Andres Katie Cox Conrad Winslow Andie Tanning
