💛 MEET DEVTA KHALSA 💛

Devta Khalsa / Devta Khalsa has practiced and taught yoga for over forty years! We are honored to welcome her back to AKYOGAFEST, as she offers Tai Chi Gung, “the simple yoga,” at 4pm on the Main Stage. She brings a quiet, steady grace to this ancient moving meditation.

MORE ABOUT DEVTA:
Devta Khalsa has practiced and taught yoga for over forty years. Trained directly by Master Lama Raaji, she carries a lineage rooted in the teachings of Lao Tsu. In this tradition there is no rigid checklist or final certificate; once a student’s understanding ripens, they are invited to teach, and the true instruction becomes a lifelong unfolding beneath the guidance of the master. Devta is now in her fourth year of that apprenticeship. She also has an extensive background in yogic studies, meditation, breath, and the science of Naam (sound current) under Yogi Bhajan and Bhai Ajeet Singh.

MORE ABOUT THE SESSION:
Tai Chi Gung traces back 3000 years to the teachings of Lao Tzu, a sage and healer who spent more than fifty years meditating in nature. From this deep connection came a simple but powerful understanding: when we move and breathe in harmony with nature, our energy begins to flow with ease. This graceful practice blends movement, breath, and mindfulness to release tension, quiet the mind, and allow chi to circulate freely. With consistent practice, Tai Chi Gung strengthens the body, improves balance, supports longevity, and brings quiet confidence to everyday life.

💛 MEET TERIN PORTER 💛

Terin Porter / Terin Aurora Rae Porter has spent a lifetime in motion — from choreographing and coaching gymnastics to martial arts and dance — and she’s channeling all that movement magic into “Dance with Nature Kids’ Yoga” at 3pm in the Kids Zone. Open to all ages and abilities, this playful workshop invites little movers to explore the world around them through their own bodies. Sway like a tree 🌳 flap your wings like a faerie🧚 flow like water! 💦

MORE ABOUT TERIN:
I have been dancing my whole life, and began choreographing and assisting in high school. I apprenticed under Judy Kreith and German Cooper in college, and earned my personal trainer certification. I started teaching my own dance at UAF and beyond; assistant coached West Valley High School Gymnastics; and became involved in a variety of movement arts community events. Fast forward to the 2020’s, and I coach at Golden Heart Performing Arts; teach workshops at AKYOGAFEST; apprentice at Ms. Mo Holland Dance Studio; train martial arts at Fairbanks World Tang Soo Do; and participate in an assortment of athletics and movement arts opportunities!

MORE ABOUT THE SESSION:
Let’s move like beings and elements of the world around us! Animals, trees, flowers, water, faeries, wind…the possibilities are endless! Do you imagine this movement from the perspective of someone watching this item, or from the perspective of the moving item? Our bodies yearn to move, so this workshop gives us a chance to really focus that movement with inspiration from nature. Workshop is open to all ages and abilities, and participants may move at whatever level of intensity each body desires.
