🧂 THE SALT REPORT: YOU CREATED A MONSTER
There was no shocking turn-2 combo.
No table-wide catastrophe.
No ridiculous rules dispute.
No single player sitting down and simply running over everyone.
Instead...
THE ENTIRE TABLE WAS THE PROBLEM.
Saturday's Magic Event went on for approximately SEVEN AND A HALF HOURS, and when the dust finally settled, LINO NAVEJA walked away with the Saturday Night Magic Event Championship once again.
But here's the part that's actually interesting.
Lino didn't defeat Matthew Gadow.
Because after the tournament pushed past the FIVE-HOUR MARK, Matthew had a prior engagement and was forced to forfeit his place at the final table.
And honestly?
That might have been the most important part of the entire story.
Because something has been happening at 2nd Hand Heroes.
Something we've been watching develop for quite some time.
THE CHAMPIONS HAVE CREATED A MONSTER.
Players like Matthew. Lino. Logan. D.W. Nate.
Current champions.
Former champions.
Multi-time champions.
Players who have spent months doing what champions do:
Winning.
And every time they won, everyone else learned.
They learned what those decks could do.
They learned what those players were capable of.
They learned when to worry.
They learned when NOT to worry.
And most importantly...
THEY LEARNED THREAT ASSESSMENT.
Because once you've been sitting across from someone who's held multiple belts, you start to realize something:
You don't get to ignore them just because they're "not doing anything."
That quiet board?
Could be a problem.
That innocent-looking commander?
Could be a problem.
That player complaining that someone else is the threat?
COULD BE A PROBLEM.
Because the veterans have demonstrated over and over again that they can go from "I'm just setting up" to "WHY IS MY ENTIRE BOARD DEAD?" remarkably quickly.
And now the rest of the room is finally catching on.
BUT HERE'S THE CATCH...
The players have also discovered that sometimes...
ONE PLAYER CAN'T DO IT ALONE.
If you've got a proven champion sitting at your table, sometimes the only reasonable answer is to put aside your differences, form an alliance of convenience, and make damn sure that player doesn't get the opportunity to assemble the machine.
Because if you don't?
Well...
Just ask Matthew what happens when you "TARGET HIM"
He returns as THE GUY WHO HAS A DINOSAUR NAMED ETALI.

The community has spent months teaching itself:
"If we don't deal with the champions early, (both current and former) they'll eventually become impossible to deal with."
And Matthew has apparently responded:
"Oh... so we're targeting me now?"
FINE.
ETALI IT IS.
😂😂😂
And THAT is the beautiful irony of what's happening.
The better everyone gets at identifying the veterans...
THE MORE DANGEROUS THE VETERANS BECOME.
Because now they're being forced to adapt.
They're bringing stronger answers.
They're playing tighter.
They're watching the table watching them.
And suddenly we're no longer watching a group of people simply trying to win a game of Commander.
We're watching an actual META develop.
Champions created contenders.
Contenders created better threat assessment.
Better threat assessment created alliances.
Alliances forced champions to adapt.
And that adaptation creates...
EVEN MORE SALT. 🧂
So congratulations to Lino Naveja, once again obtaining the Saturday throne.
And to everyone else:
Keep improving.
Keep watching.
Keep making alliances.
Keep your head on a swivel.
Because around here, the belt doesn't make you the threat.
Your reputation does.
And apparently...
