Listening to while reminiscing over the dazed weekends when me, leon () and my dad () would watch Breakfast Club interviews in the house. was one we would always gravitate towards. His honest, hilarious and historically accurate anecdotes of a ... darker America than we see today.
My heart is heavy. Not only of the loss of a black inspiration and hero but for the direction this country had always been headed.

If you told me I would be drawing a memorial piece for one of my favorite band leaders, I'd tell you you were joking. Put after Chester passing...man. it's a doozy. had gotten me through multiple emotional ordeals... parents divorce, A really good friend dying. Multiple breakups. I had Linkin Park for that. I hate doing memorials... R.I.P. Chester. :'(

When you hear , what do you hear? I had been a fan since "Nike Boots" so my first vision is the DC short dreadlocked poet turned rapper. Others, see this...declining figure constantly arguing with magazines, radio stations and paparazzi alike. had a rather scathing view on the latest project and other magazines followed suit; I think the only one with a moderately kind tone...was . So I asked myself, how did we get here with one of the most creative lyrics?
I needed answers, so I did what I usually did. Dive into the . I had been bumping a little bit later than I liked, starting with the opening song with the bass heavy melody and usual wordplay and wordsmithing I usually pair with. An interesting turn to a collab I will admit. Usually on previous works he liked to rhyme in the spotlight for a while... he waited until with to bring out his feature. If I've got my tracklist right, it went, Hold your applause, Double M Genius, Miami nights then Slight Work.
It was a pattern I grew accustomed to, , Wale gassed for 3 sh*ts before his first feature. 2 until on , while breaking habit with , still went a while establishing the overall theme.
I feel like he got a sense of where he wanted to land. A place he wanted to start a new page in the chronicles and journalings of. Processing some of the turmoils of last year and taking the blessings that came with this year. And while not as constructed as usual albums I'm glad he found that place to land.
