Over the next few days I’ll be posting a couple of ideas for students to do to keep their creativity flowing during this unexpected break! None require special supplies or techniques, just a willing artist & creative brain 🙂

First up is one of our favorite YouTube channels, Art for Kids Hub! On this channel Rob & his kids teach us how to draw so many things from animals to food to special characters. We use these videos in class from time to time, so your student should be familiar with how it works. All you do is find a video suitable for your students’ ability level and follow along!

I encourage students to follow his prompts, but of course make it their own. It’s ok if it doesn’t look perfect - life would be so boring if everyone’s art looked the same!

THANK YOU so much to everyone who has donated supplies and activities to our room. Having these as options for early finishers gives students choice and independence, and quite frankly, just time to be creative kids. We REALLY appreciate it ❤️

2nd grade is finishing up their painted paper owls. This has to be one of my favorite projects we’ve ever done!

What is something you learn about in art AND math? If you guessed shapes, you are right! Last week we completed many fun challenges with pattern blocks, testing our shape knowledge and spatial reasoning, both important things for artists to know!

Santa comes in many colors 🙂 2nd grade is working hard on their mixed media Santas! They started out drawing with oil pastels, then will finish painting next week. Last step is adding patterns to his coat.

Ms. Gregory and Mrs. Barrentine’s Kindergarten classes made their turkeys for Thanksgiving! We read “A Turkey for Thanksgiving” by Eve Bunting, then students followed a directed drawing using oil pastel and paint. I love what these little minds come up with!
