Weeks of painting. Layers of color. Adjustments that probably no one but me will ever notice.

Then comes the transformation -- varnish, frame, wire -- and suddenly it's no longer a painting in progress on my easel.

It's finished.

Now it just needs a wall.

I don't know where this painting will eventually hang.

Maybe above a sofa in a home where someone has been staring at that big empty wall far too long.

Maybe in an office, where a little distance and quiet would be welcome in the middle of a busy day.

Or perhaps it will find its way to someone who simply feels better when the horizon is wide, the sky is open, and the natural world is close at hand.

That's who I paint for.

Not simply someone looking for something to fill a wall -- but someone who wants that wall to change the way a room feels.

This one is still taking shape in the studio. For now, I'll keep a little of it to myself.

Prairie Lakes Plein Air is in full swing, and what a week it's been! Thank you Lisa Stauffer for a fabulous plein air workshop at Prairie Wetlands in Fergus Falls! I think there will be some beautiful prairie paintings in this year's competition!
