Today’s staff spotlight features our wonderful chaplain Amy!

Amy Crawford has, for the last 20 years, worked at the intersection of ministry and psychology. She holds a Masters in Clinical and Counseling Psychology, with a concentration in adolescent psychology and pastoral counseling. Amy has worked as a trauma and spirituality therapist for youth and young adults, as associate pastor of spiritual care and counseling at Liquid Church, a top-100 fastest-growing church in the US, and is currently in the process of becoming ordained in The Episcopal Church and receiving an M.Div. from General Theological Seminary. She also consults as an organizational psychologist and as a trauma/neurodiversity specialist to various organizations, including seminaries and para-church organizations. Amy and her husband are parents to four daughters. In her (few) spare moments, she is a classically trained professional pianist who enjoys playing Bach, an avid native-plants gardener, and a person passionate about liturgy and Benedictine spirituality.

We’re excited to feature Michael Smith, our assistant music director, for today’s staff spotlight!

Michael Smith is the Minister of Music at St. Thomas’ Church, Whitemarsh, located outside of Philadelphia. There he oversees a semi-professional adult choir and a chorister program and has led them to amplify the voices of women and BIPOC composers while honoring the church’s Anglican musical heritage. Michael serves as Past President of the Royal School of Church Music in America, where his goals include strengthening and supporting the summer residencies, increasing the value of the organization to its members, and amplifying diversity, equity, and inclusion across the organization. Prior to his appointment to St. Thomas’ Church, he had a twelve year career in teaching and administration for private schools, including Shipley School in Philadelphia and Groton School in Massachusetts. Concurrently, he served a variety of parishes on a part-time basis and values the experiences of working with small, medium, and large parishes everywhere on the liturgical spectrum. Michael earned his undergraduate degree in organ performance at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. He went on to earn graduate degrees in organ and conducting at Yale University.

Let’s do a staff spotlight! Meet this year’s organist, Andrew Jacob:

Andrew Jacob serves as the Director of Worship and Music at Augustana Lutheran Church in West Saint Paul, MN. Andy’s greatest joy at the organ comes when leading a worshiping congregation in song. He is regularly invited to create and lead hymn festivals around the country and to serve as a clinician at continuing education conferences for church musicians.

Andy also serves as the Music Director for St. Olaf College’s internationally syndicated radio program, Sing For Joy. Each week, the 30-minute program airs sacred choral music following the lessons assigned in the Revised Common Lectionary.

A multiple prize recipient, he is the winner of the 2019 Ruth and Paul Manz Organ Competition (Lutheran School of Theology, Chicago), the 2020 American Guild of Organists Student Commissioning Project Grant, and the 2021 Richard VanScriver Church Music Scholarship in Organ (Metropolitan Music Ministries, Charlotte, NC).

Andy earned the B.A. degree in music from St. Olaf College and the M.M. degree in organ performance from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA) where he was a Kenan Organ Scholar. His primary teachers have included Dr. Catherine Rodland and James Bobb at St. Olaf and Dr. Timothy Olsen at UNCSA.
