Still processing the energy from our recent solo debut at Symphony Center! 🖤✨

Bringing Michael Abels’ ( ) piece ‘Delights & Dances’ to the stage was such a highlight — so, a huge thank you to Michael for trusting us with his wonderful music!

It was also so much fun working alongside the Civic Orchestra of Chicago ( ) and the incredible Maestro Carlos Miguel Prieto ( ). Sharing this moment with such talented artists made this collaboration even more special!

We are so, so incredibly proud of Caitlin, Khelsey, Wilfred, and Lindsey for embracing this moment and partnership. It marks a huge milestone for us, and is just the work we hope to continue doing. Bravo on a truly amazing debut! 🎻

We recently gathered at The Land School for a truly special evening of calming music and healing practices with the Silkroad Ensemble ( ) 🪕

In collaboration with Rebuild Foundation and The Harris Theater, we were so honored to host this space for personal reflection, collective rest, and restoration. Having our own home at The Land School gives us the freedom to create these kinds of intentional environments where we can slow down and just be.🖤

It was truly an amazing experience working alongside partners who value collaboration as much as we do. We are excited to bring more innovative and exciting programming to The Land School!

Stay tuned for more highlights and behind-the-scenes looks from our time at The Land School! In the meantime, you can learn more about our upcoming performances at the link in our bio. 🔗

We recently gathered all eight members of the D-Composed collective for a very special evening of improvisation with the incredible Jessie Montgomery ( )! 🎻

Improvisation is a core pillar of Black music and expression, and we wanted to spend time to truly honor that tradition. Having our own dedicated space at The Land School gives us the freedom to come together and workshop our artistry and collaborative muscles as an ensemble. 🏠 🖤

It was such a powerful experience to explore new sounds and push our boundaries as D-Composed. Stay tuned for more highlights like these from our time at The Land School!

In Part 2 of our Black Composers 101 series — an educational curriculum developed w/ .inclusionhub and Alexis Peart — we explored the work of the incredible Jessie Montgomery ( )! 🎻✨

The Music Inclusion Hub is a special partnership between Castle of Our Skins, Boulanger Initiative, and OrchKids to bring culturally responsive resources to classrooms nationwide. 🎹

If you aren’t familiar, Jessie Montgomery is a Grammy Award-winning composer, improviser, and educator who brings together improvisation, poetry, and social justice into classical music.

In this module, we dove into her piece “Voodoo Dolls” — a work commissioned in 2008 by the JUMP! Dance Company of Rhode Island that was heavily inspired by West African drumming, dance, and improvisation. 🥁

Stay tuned for more highlights from our other modules featuring Florence Price, Tomeka Reid, and other Black composers! In the meantime, explore the full curriculum, video lessons, and activities at the link in our bio. 🔗 🎬
