Talking Pictures Festival

Talking Pictures Festival Organized by the non-profit Percolator Films, the Talking Pictures Festival was a popular independent film festival that ran in Evanston, IL (2009-2012).

The Talking Pictures Festival's mission was to present independent films that are challenging, intriguing, entertaining and prompt the viewer to think outside the box. True to its name, screenings at the Talking Pictures Festival were often accompanied by discussions with filmmakers, guest speakers, and community groups. After a successful four-year run, sadly the festival had to close its doors d

ue to the impact of the recession on small arts organizations. The Talking Pictures Festival was produced by Percolator Films, a non-profit film organization that also organizes the free Reeltime film and discussion series and other film programs.

Have you ever wondered what it's like to be a public defender? Find out more on on Tue, June 18, 7pm, when we team up with Human Rights Watch-Chicago to show Dawn Porter's award-winning Gideon's Army, which follows three passionately dedicated young public defenders in the Deep South, who choose to represent the disenfranchised, some of whom are indisputably guilty. Porter delves into the agonies, perils, and triumphs of careers that offer few rewards beyond the satisfaction of fighting tirelessly for the equal rights of all under the law.

This screening is part of Percolator Films' free Reeltime film and discussion series, hosted at the Evanston Public Library
