“It will be windy until it isn’t.” During times of hardship we find ourselves turning towards art to escape, or to ground ourselves, or to grow, or a combination of all three in due time, when we’re ready. In “Ash and Feather” by Sharon Frances, Phoenix rises from the ashes on the wings of art - poetry, songs, fables - and the wind of love; now, you can join Courtney Reed as she shares a poem passed down to her by loving hands, which she now passes on to you. To escape. To ground. To grow.

Continue to turn towards art, now more than ever. Reserve your free ticket for “Ash and Feather” by Sharon Frances at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/12th-annual-playground-festival-of-fresh-works-registration-119550106587

Tea parties have always been the stuff of royalty, so it seems only fitting that our final Tea-YA is with a princess! Sit up straight, pinkies out, and be on your best behavior as we sit down with none other than Courtney Reed, a Broadway regular best known for playing the original Princess Jasmine in Disney’s “Aladdin” on Broadway!

Join us as we discuss auditioning for “the most magical theatre company on Earth,” the pressure and play in portraying such a well-known, beloved role, the experience of TYA on Broadway - and oh, how it SHINES - as well as some zany onstage mishaps that, trust me, you’ll want to hear about. Plus, be on the lookout for an exclusive video from Courtney as she soars (perhaps on her magic carpet?) into the rich, poetic world of “Ash and Feather,” the final adventure to spread its wings on the PLAYground Festival stage!

--------

Want to see what all the TYA talk is about? Get in the know about the way this industry is innovating, and then see it for yourself! Words hold an immense power: every major push for change in human history was built on the backs of words. In “Wave Goodbye,” Byrony raises her voice to speak up about climate change, her words carrying her all the way to the 2015 signing of the United Nations Climate Accord in Paris.

Now, join Finegan Kruckmeyer as he continues the conversation, and shares some of his favorite words - in the form of stories and poems - to take with you or dive into further as you join Byrony in her journey TODAY, October 18th.

We are living in a world and a time where activism is more important than ever: where cries against racial injustice - amplified in the united stomp of protestors - must be louder than the shots fired, and the deafening silence that follows. Where demands to combat climate change must travel faster than the speed of the ice flows melting, the skies darkening with smoke, and the islands being swept away with the rising tide.

But how does one become an activist? Where do you even begin? Join Suzan Zeder as she takes you on a soundscape journey to the root of activism: radical kindness. Unlock your power to change this world, at this time. We need you.

Wave Goodbye - Premieres THIS SUNDAY, October 18th (1:00pm CST)
by Talya Kingston
Directed by Susie McCollum

Byrony and Celeste have grown up on the shores of an atoll nation in the South Pacific. While they appreciate the island's beauty, they are growing frustrated by its limitations. As a storm approaches, the girls are pulled between their understanding of the science of climate change and local custom. However, the wave they meet is like them: afraid and angry. Meeting the wave forces Celeste to confront her private grief at the loss of her mother, and inspires Byrony to speak up publicly, carrying her all the way to the 2015 signing of the United Nations Climate Accord in Paris.
