It's story time! 📖

One of the greatest blessings of my work has been that so many clients end up becoming dear friends. Erik is one of those stories.

Just short of 10 years ago, we met while I was bartending. He'd stop in occasionally for a beer and dinner, and we'd end up chatting about life.

A while later, we realized we'd both be at Art-A-Whirl in Minneapolis—an event my husband and I had attended for years. As art lovers, it was one of our favorite weekends of the year.

Only this time, Erik wasn't attending as a guest.

He was performing.

When we found his stage, I couldn't believe what I was hearing. This quiet, reserved guy I'd gotten to know was suddenly commanding the crowd with a voice that stopped me in my tracks. My jaw literally dropped.

My husband and I were instantly hooked.

After seeing him perform a couple more times, I finally said, "Erik, you're way too talented for people not to know where you're playing!"

At the time, he barely posted on social media, so I started helping him create content and photographing his shows.

A few months later, he asked if I'd be interested in helping book gigs. I had zero experience, but he was willing to teach me, and it felt like the perfect fit.

That first year, we booked nearly 100 gigs together.

More importantly, I had the privilege of documenting an incredibly talented musician, growing alongside a wonderful friend, and discovering a whole new creative path.

Looking back, that experience played a huge role in shaping the photographer I am today. It opened doors to opportunities I never could have imagined and sparked my love for live music photography.

It's funny how one conversation can change the course of your life.

And sometimes, years later, you get a reminder of just how meaningful that connection was. The review Erik left for me, is one I'll cherish forever 🥹💕

Most days, you'll find me creating something.

Some days that looks like graphic design.

Some days it's photography.

Some days it's sitting at my desk sketching ideas for paper goods and other things I'd love to bring to life.

When I shifted from focusing primarily on wedding and event stationery to working with small businesses as well, I chose the name Haven 33 Creative because I didn't want to be limited to just one kind of creativity.

I love helping people tell their stories through graphic design and photography, but I also love making things with my own two hands.

I'm looking forward to spending more time exploring that side of creativity again this summer ✨

If you missed my recent update, I moved from Minnesota to Montana three weeks ago—back to the same beautiful small town I called home 14 years ago.

While we work on renovating our home (including a brand-new office space for me—so exciting!), you'll find me working from our camper's kitchen table, which will be home for another month or so, or tucked away at the local coffee shop.

I don't have all my art supplies unpacked yet, but it's been a pretty great reminder that you don't need the perfect setup to keep creating ☕️✨

One of my favorite things about what I do is that photography and graphic design don't live in separate boxes.

A recent example?

I photographed a senior session, then used one of those images to design a custom graduation announcement.

Because I am involved in both parts of the process, everything works together from the beginning—the location, the lighting, the composition, the overall feel, and finally the design itself.

It's something I've been doing for years without really thinking about it.

Sometimes I'm taking the photos.

Sometimes I'm creating the branding.

Sometimes I'm designing the printed piece.

Sometimes it's all of the above.

I LOVE being able to help people bring an idea to life from start to finish.

Seeing a project go from a conversation to a photograph to a finished piece in someone's hands never gets old. Even after almost 20 years of doing this.

If you need help putting some of the pieces together, I'm here for you!

Over the past few days, I've shared some of the senior photo sessions I captured this season.

Today feels like the perfect time to share one more piece of Kali's story.

The day after her graduation ceremony, I'm sharing the announcement I had the honor of designing using one of the portraits from her senior session 😍✨

We kept the design simple and timeless, allowing her beautiful self to shine.

Her name and graduation year printed in a beautifully embossed gold.

On the back side, the celebration details; Date, Time, Place (not shown for privacy).

Kali chose the envelope color, fitting for a nature loving gal!

And we even printed her return address on the labels in the same font we used on the invitation.

One of my favorite things about what I do is helping tell a story in more than one way—capturing meaningful moments through photography and then bringing them to life through thoughtful design.

Congratulations again, Kali. Wishing you so much joy and success in the adventures ahead! 🎓💚

✨ Kali’s Senior Session Highlight ✨

I’ve known Kali since she was 4 years old — back when I lived in Montana the first time around.

So when she reached out asking me to take her senior photos, it felt a little emotional and very special.

What's even more incredible is that she asked me to photograph her senior session right around the same time my husband and I had just closed on our new home here in Montana. After years of living in Minnesota, it felt like one of those beautiful full-circle moments life occasionally gives us.

Over the years, Kali and I have shared so many adventures together. We've celebrated birthdays, floated down rivers on hot summer days, taken drives down long winding mountain roads, camped under Montana skies, gathered around family dinner tables, and created countless memories in between.

I've watched her grow from a little girl into the remarkable young woman she is today.

Kali has always been such a strong, spunky soul with a big heart. A fellow summer baby, she carries this beautiful free spirit with her — the kind of person who stops to pick wildflowers simply because they're beautiful. The kind of person who brings warmth, laughter, and joy wherever she goes.

Getting to photograph her during this season of life felt like such a gift. After only catching little glimpses of her over the years while I was back in Minnesota, being here now — back in Montana — and getting to witness this milestone firsthand feels incredibly meaningful.

This session was full of so much beauty, but what I'll remember most is what it represented: growth, change, coming home, and the beginning of a brand new chapter.

And now here we are... graduation day.

Kali, I truly cannot wait to watch you walk across that stage and step into this next season of your life. You have such exciting plans ahead of you, and I already know you're going to do incredible things with them.

So proud of you, always. 💕✨

✨ Severene’s Senior Session Highlight ✨

I first met Severene right at the start of this session.

His dad is a musician in a band that I had recently started working with, and we met up at a location that Severene chose — a place that has special meaning to their family.

But what neither of them knew… was that this place also held a really meaningful piece of my story, too. And I didn’t realize it until I pulled into the parking lot.

Years ago, after a long hiatus from photography, I attended a photography workshop at this exact location. I remember standing there back then dreaming about what it would feel like to truly pursue this creative path again someday.

And now, 6 years later, I found myself back in that very same spot… photographing one of my first senior sessions and living the dream I once quietly hoped for there.

It felt incredibly full-circle.

The entire session felt magical from start to finish. Severene, his dad, and
I wandered through the park together surrounded by the most beautiful fall colors, discovering little pockets of beauty everywhere we turned — a golden wheat field, a peaceful stream, an old red barn, and at the very end, an old tractor that looked just like the one his grandpa had.

Memories, meaning, and timing all somehow intertwined perfectly.

And beyond the beautiful scenery, I genuinely loved getting to know Severene throughout the session. He’s thoughtful, grounded, kind, and has such a bright future ahead of him. You can just tell he’s going to do amazing things.

Severene, thank you for letting me capture this season of your life.
Wishing you all the best in whatever comes next — you’re absolutely going to rock it.

✨ Atira’s Senior Session Highlight ✨

I had only just met Atira at this session.

I’ve been friends with her dad for years — an unbelievably talented musician I’ve had the honor of working with many times — but this day was just me, Atira, her dog, and her mom chasing golden light together.

And the moment we pulled up to the location she had chosen… I was completely blown away.

It felt magical instantly.

Atira had such a calm, genuine presence about her. She brought so much beauty and heart into every single photo, and getting to talk with her about her dreams and the future while we got creative together, made the whole session feel even more meaningful. She was an absolute natural in front of the camera, and honestly… this session made me fall in love with senior photography.

What made it even more special were all the little unplanned moments that somehow came together perfectly. The wind catching her beautiful long glossy hair. The trees around us matching the green tones in her jewelry. The sunset stretching across the lake at the end of our session, while rays of sunlight poured through the clouds. And at the very end, stumbling across a willow tree — her favorite kind of tree.

It all felt so aligned. So dreamy. Like nature quietly collaborating with us the entire evening.

We even ended up taking photos *in the lake*.

As the sun started setting with the most beautiful colors, there I was — standing in the water with my pants rolled up and camera in hand — capturing Atira surrounded by the dreamiest pieces of nature imaginable (She wanted some photos of her in the water, and of course I was down for the adventure).

It still takes my breath away looking back at these photos.

I always hope my sessions capture more than just a photo — I want them to hold onto a feeling. A season of life. A piece of who someone is in that moment before everything changes.

So grateful I got to document this chapter for you, Atira.
You have such a beautiful future ahead of you.

Last Fall, something unexpected — and honestly really special — happened.

Out of the blue — and within just days of each other — I was asked to photograph not one, but THREE senior sessions.

Why was it unexpected? Because this was my very first time photographing seniors. Usually, you’ll find me in front of a stage capturing musicians pouring their hearts out under the lights 🎶📸

But this. This was so special in such a different way.

These are all the children of friends of mine.

Two of them I had just met for the very first time, and one I’ve known since she was 4 years old. Which made this experience feel even more emotional and meaningful.

Getting to witness these seniors standing on the edge of a brand new chapter was such an honor. Every single one of them brought their own personality, energy, dreams, and story into their session.

Each one of them also chose the location for their session, and all three spots — two in Minnesota and one in Montana — ended up feeling completely magical in their own way ✨

Wow, what a beautiful thing it is to capture who they are in this moment before life takes them into their next adventure.

These sessions reminded me why I love photography so much.
Photos freeze seasons of life we can never fully get back.

To these three grads: thank you for trusting me with your memories. I’m cheering all of you on SO BIG as you step into what’s next! 🎉✨

And to everyone entering a new season lately — maybe this is your reminder to document it 😉🫶🏼
