How can we welcome the growing population in our communities without setting up an unsustainable maintenance bill?

CPH found out about the housing application fee racket. Gotta squeeze students (or their parents) for every last Benjamin.

Will there be public accounting for the application fees?

Is this for real?

Mary and Jayden,

Vision and inspiration for an inclusive community in McKinleyville,CA.

From the We Are Up website:

Our family – perhaps like yours – includes children with autism and other developmental disabilities. As they grow older, we must contemplate their futures as adults, and prepare for the day when relatives are no longer able to care for them, or when they are ready to live more independently. The We Are UP project was born from the hope that these children from our family – and from yours – will have access to secure, long term and affordable housing, training and education that leads to rewarding employment, and life in a supportive community.

From an 80 acre homestead in Southern Humboldt to a successful cheesemaker and business owner, Mary Keehn envisions a future where community members support each other and her granddaughter and others will continue to thrive in the community they call home.

Bishop Pines

As so many in our community struggle to find or maintain a roof over their heads. Little bastions of the past fall into disrepair.

Bishop Pines, now abandoned, was once a thriving community of vacation cabins. It ceased operations quietly sometime in the last decade. What is the future of this parcel and where have the guests gone?

Communally we have begun to address shortages in available housing by converting motels to long term transitional homes.

Simultaneously, investors have been in a rush to convert residences into lodging, it's more profitable to have a guest than a tenant, or to sell a house to a family searching for a home in our community.

As municipalities struggle to meet the RHNA numbers (quotas for new homes) set by the state, nearly 1000 homes in the county have been converted to hotels undermining the housing goal.
