The Humboldt Arts Council is thrilled to announce that local artist, Denise Hernandez (Chica Masa ), has been awarded a 2026 Upstate Individual Artists Fellowship! Denise Hernandez collaborates with grassroots organizations in Humboldt County on environmental and cultural advocacy, focusing on art education, animation, media, and event organization for BIPOC, 2S/LGBTQ+AI, immigrant, neurodivergent, and disabled communities. In 2022, she launched mini-workshops on Color Maíz, later funded by the Upstate California Corps grant. “This award is a testament to Denise’s remarkable vision, artistic dedication, and invaluable contribution to our local arts landscape.”—Jemima Harr, Humboldt Arts Council Executive Director-Curator

The restoration project has begun! Thank you to our volunteers that helped us carefully move about 29.99% of the work out this week. We still have a ways to go. Later this month, August 19th and 20th, we gather again at 1pm in Old Town to continue moving artwork to storage.

If you’re available to help volunteer, please call the Humboldt Arts Council at (707)442-0278. A full article about the project is available on the Lost Coast Outpost website and FB page.

Thanks for the photos The Lost Coast Outpost!
