In November 1919, President Wilson proclaimed November 11 as the first commemoration of the end of World War I in 1918. β€œArmistice Day” was observed in following years to honor those who served in the-then β€œwar to end all wars”. Following World War II and the Korean War, the recognition was expanded (in 1954) to include all of those who have served honorably in the nation’s armed forces. Veterans Day stands in contrast to Memorial Day which is intended to honor those who have died in military service.

On Saturday, November 11, all veterans will be recognized in a brief 9:30 am program at Myrtle Grove Memorial Cemetery. Flags will be placed at the graves of each of the more than 260 veterans and special recognition will be provided for the veterans with new headstones.
