Meet William Lumpkin 🎶

William Lumpkin is an accomplished conductor and pianist whose career has taken him to some of the most prestigious opera companies in the U.S., including the Opera Theatre of St. Louis, Boston Lyric Opera, and Los Angeles Opera. He has led world premieres and American debuts, earning praise for his work with productions like Jonathan Dove’s Flight and Mozart’s Così fan tutte.

As the Artistic Director and Conductor for the Opera Institute at Boston University, Lumpkin has directed over 40 opera productions and collaborated with artists like Lauren Flanigan. This summer, he will conduct Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro at Opera in the Ozarks—don’t miss it!

Dr. Cockrell, the maestro behind the magic, has been the Nelson Riddle Endowed Chair in Music and the director of UA Opera Theater for over two decades. His baton has not only led countless students to success but also conjured symphonies that echo across the globe.

From conducting top-notch symphony orchestras both in the U.S. and abroad to leading renowned opera companies, his career is a symphony of achievements. His leadership in music festivals resonates with the passion and dedication that inspires both audiences and performers alike.

As an educator, Dr. Cockrell has been shaping the future of music with his master classes and clinics. His academic journey, marked by prestigious degrees and studies with world-renowned conductors, sets a high note for aspiring musicians.

We are so thrilled to welcome back JJ Hudson to the Point for our 76th season! 💙

JJ Hudson is a renowned stage director celebrated for his sensitive and dynamic productions. He has directed major works with Sarasota Opera, Opera Tampa, and Wichita Grand Opera, among others. JJ is currently the Interim Artistic Director at the Cleveland Institute of Music Opera Theater, where he has directed several acclaimed productions.

A frequent collaborator with young artist programs, JJ has worked with Aspen Opera Theater and the Miami Music Festival, earning high praise, including from The New York Times for his direction of Schubert’s Winterreise.

We are excited to collaborate with him this summer with our productions of Candide and Le nozze di Figaro!
