Finally set up a tiny studio in my cozy, temporary abode. Mama Girl has found the perfect cuddle spot beneath the bed. My heart and soul are filled with contentment.

It’s been a crazy nine days since I closed on the house. Today things got a lot calmer as the universe continues to hold a safety net beneath me, despite my flailing. I should have a makeshift studio set up by the end of this weekend. I guess this is the adventure I asked for! More soon…

Spending these last gorgeous Spring days in Eureka mainly on my porch. I will miss this space the most. So much to reflect on, so many memories and lots of joy-filled days spent here creating art. I moved in on May 2, 2021 and will leave almost exactly 5 years to the day.

Eureka has changed me forever, for the better. I don’t know if or how my art would have blossomed if I hadn’t been immersed in the creativity that is Eureka. I have met some of the most beautiful people I have ever known and I’m so grateful. And, I absolutely cherish my DeVito‘s (restaurant) memories. It has been a lovely 18 1/2 years.

I will be living in East Fayetteville, very near Abigail and our favorite place to walk, Lake Fayetteville. I’m looking forward to returning home and starting anew. ❌⭕️

One of my favorite rituals with my daughter is when she gives me a tarot reading. These moments create a rare pause in our lives--a space where we can have deeper conversations about our internal landscapes, the struggles we’re navigating, the achievements we’re celebrating, and the complicated feelings that often accompany both. There’s something profound about processing these emotions together, about naming what’s happening beneath the surface. When the “In the Cards” Show invited artists to create work inspired by anything card-related, I immediately knew I wanted to capture this: the way tarot opens a door to vulnerability and reflection, the visual richness of the cards themselves, and the intimate connection they’ve help me build with my daughter.

This was my first attempt at frame-making and I’ll just say, the frames are imperfectly perfect.

Power tools intimidate me, although I used every kind of saw imaginable and nail guns while building my tiny home but I cringed every time. I am also noise sensitive. I found this Dremel portable battery operated table saw at Lowe’s yesterday. Much more in my comfort zone. Frame making time! Let’s go!

This piece was the last of 4 I created over 11 years ago when I took that first art class. It was the last day and with only two hours remaining, I had only enough time to lay down an underpainting. And, from there, it went into a closet… until a couple of years ago when my daughter took it home. I then began seeing it again and that inspired me to finally get it finished. She was partial to the painting for personal reasons so I kept the title and also wished to retain much of the underpainting. To achieve that, I chose to have the buildings sort of floating up from the bottom. I also left a large patch in the upper right corner visible. And, the big black + that crossed through the painting. I’m looking forward to refining the process and creating more.
