I would like to end any rumors right here, that Charlotte is pulling down the Artery panels during the May Fine Arts as a snub to the city. We are not taking down panels yet, although we will begin in the next couple weeks...this is only a couple months earlier than they were originally scheduled to be removed. Charlotte is now seeking a new city to host the next Artery... time frame unknown.

Because of recent interest in The Artery, Buchanan-Yale is at last speaking out for the sake of clarity concerning the now defunct multi-event project she began in 2005 in an effort to link several activities in a weekend of downtown community and tourist participation.

The aim of every artist is to arrest motion, which is life, by artificial means and hold it fixed so that a hundred years later, when a stranger looks at it, it moves again since it is life. ~William Faulkner

It is not the language of painters but the language of nature which one should listen to, the feeling for the things themselves, for reality, is more important than the feeling for pictures. -Vincent Van Gogh, 1853-1890

I have always tried to hide my own efforts and wished my works to have the lightness and joyousness of a springtime which never lets anyone suspect the labours it cost. -Henri Matisse, French painter, 1869-1954

Success is dangerous. One begins to copy oneself, and to copy oneself is more dangerous than to copy others. It leads to sterility. -Pablo Picasso

The ARTERY-- a non-profit program linked to M.A.P Master Apprentice Preservation Foundation-- gives new meaning to urban renewal with its creation of an open-air gallery, consisting of giant four-foot by eight-foot murals designed by local and visiting artists.
The Artery represents the lifeblood of art in our region's creative economy with the intent of showcasing Eureka Springs as a community where art not only impacts aesthetics of environment, but also elevates the appreciation and preservation of art and artists to promote and secure the art's rightful place in every community.
This ever changing living mural rotates upon the sale and theme of the panels. The Artery is funded in part by a portion of the proceeds of the sale of the panels and from generous donors who are inspired by art and wish to inspire others.
Our website www.TheArterySite.org includes information about the Artery artists' names & titles of panels, artists' statements about their work, gallery representation, contact information, and to learn more about how you can be a part of the Artery by generously supporting our cause. The Artery is a project of the Congressional District Program.

"Mother Nature Enjoys a Break" by Patty Vicknair. This 4' by 8' panel is a part of the Artery Outdoor Gallery in Eureka Springs Arkansas.
Artist statement: "This painting was inspired by the thought that Mother Nature is in charge of the Seasons and she needs to take a break and chill sometimes just like we do. So I painted her sitting under a tree, on a bench, with a few flowers, and a few animals just relaxing. I used acrylic paint and completed the painting in my garage because of the size of the panel. One thing you may notice is that some of the paint has a shimmer too it. I love a little sparkle."-Patty Vicknair
