This sweet acrylic painting done on watercolor paper is of a cottage located in the warehouse district in Eureka Springs. Paul said it took a while for him to finish it, but I think the results were worth the effort it took! I love the sky....

This is our good friend MJ, who is moving to Toronto! We will miss her😢 but she hopes to be back to visit in October. She has been an ambassador for us, as she takes note cards with her whenever she travels to other countries. On this trip, she will be visiting Poland and Russia before she settles in Toronto. Thanks to her and other friends, we now have art work in 26 countries!

Safe travels MJšŸ˜€

Two weeks ago, I posted a photo of Paul’s charcoal drawing of the Beulah Church... and today, you can see the work in progress as he puts paint to canvas. Here Paul works to capture the stoic presence of this old wooden structure as it stands sentinel to the community which has been its home for many years.

Pail enjoys his Wednesday painting outings with the Eureka Springs Plein Air group, and this week was spent at Lake Leatherwood. Such a beautiful, cool and tranquil setting in the heat of the summer. I look forward to seeing this finished painting hanging on someone’s wall!

Artists do more than just provide us with beautiful creations that enhance our homes and public spaces. They also provide an historical record of people, events, buildings and landscapes. Long before the advent of photography, artists gave us a glimpse into the history of our surroundings.

The Eureka Plein Air Artists ventured out to Beulah Church this past Wednesday in order to capture a moment in time of this old wooden structure. Located on 23 South outside Eureka Springs, it is a reminder of times and lives past, as it also is the site of a cemetery.

Paul took this photo of his sketch done in charcoal, which will make a lovely painting and add to the historical record of this simple community church.

Paul has been having a great visit with his Grand Niece Sammi (Samantha) who is here from Michigan. Sammi is an aspiring artist who has been drawing and working in watercolors for years, and while she was here, they had the opportunity to paint together locally with the Eureka Springs Plein Aire painters. She and Paul also painted together in several other different locations around Eureka.

The photo shows Sammi and Paul standing in front of the 'Buffalo Wilderness’ mural that Paul painted for Vold Vision in Fayetteville several years ago. They also had a great visit to Crystal Bridges plus she got to help us out at the Fayetteville Farmers' Market for the last two Saturdays.

Sammi will be returning home soon to prepare for starting college in the fall to study nursing. She really enjoyed her visit to Arkansas and we hope she comes back soon for another visit!

Paul is shown here in downtown Eureka Springs creating a drawing for a 20 x 24-inch painting. He had this to say about his day of drawing:

ā€œHere I am doing a drawing for a 20 x 24-inch painting. It’s nice to draw with Charcoal Sticks again, and I’m using some of the Grumbacher No. 43 Charcoal Sticks leftover from art school in the 1960s. I still have the original box they came in! This day of drawing reminds me of how much I like using them. I intend to keep the painting loose, like the drawing, to achieve a painterly look. This will take a couple of sessions on location to finish and fortunately, the weather has been beautiful in the mornings.ā€

Last week, a customer asked Paul if he had done any paintings of old Arkansas churches. The one that came to mind for him was a painting he had done when he first came to Arkansas and was camping on the Kings River. Shown below is a print of that first painting of Winona Church, located on Rockhouse Road (CR 302). He passed it coming and going to town each day, and was always curious this simple, wooden building, finally deciding to do this lovely painting.

Paul did several paintings of the church over the years, particularly since the setting was so spectacular in Spring and Fall.
