The concept sprung during a four-day father-son-son road trip in which the father was not allowed to say no. But for a daily budget and a yellow flag, which could be raised to express a concern and discuss alternatives, the father was committed to saying yes to everything his 10- and 6-year-old pleasure-seekers requested. Ironically, setting aside his own agendas and comforts to grant them their w
hims and wishes ultimately got him exactly what he wished, which was, quite simply, quality time with his children. On that trip, he took notes on what he observed in his sons and in himself and in the world around them, and unexpectedly tapped into something otherworldly. Like a voice that seemed at once to be coming from outside and simultaneously from deep within. A voice that was playful, wise and loving - much like his sons. It sang and celebrated in rhythm and rhyme, orating its message in poetry, aphorism, and verse. Months later, during a long solo hike in Rocky Mountain National Park, as the words continued to flow far beyond that initial road trip, "The Wiser Amuser" revealed its name and its role as a champion for lifetimes of personal inquiry and growth and quality time in the present. This page, like the book, is a sampling of what flows when to the wilderness one goes. Each entry is its own inquiry. There is a wiser amuser to discover within every person. If you're not certain where to find yours in you, it will behoove you to go for a saunter or two or ten...or three hundred thirty-three...and to inquire with your shadow as it peacefully goes...and to carefully climb a tree wearing a magician's hat and a clown's nose or perhaps a tiara and a tutu and who knows but you what inspires the lovely muse inside...and then you must stop...and look out and around and up and down and most importantly, in...and listen…as the voice within transforms from a boring-ole-crummy-tummy-ho-humming to a new-alum-chum-with-an-inner-yum-drum. We are not so different and yet we are all so wonderfully unique. What says The Wiser Amuser in you?
