San Diego Civic Youth Orchestra For 69 years, CYO has enriched the lives of young musicians from all over Southern California in their pursuit for the highest quality of music education.

Since 1956, the Civic Youth Orchestra (CYO) has enriched the lives of young musicians from all over Southern California. One of the goals of CYO is to enhance the opportunities for music students and music education in the region, which includes:
- Providing professional music directors in rehearsal and frequent coaching.
- A stair-step placement program, which allows musicians of all levels to be

placed in an ensemble right for them.
- Many opportunities to perform in some of Southern California's finest art centers and concert halls.
- Camps, workshops, and international tours are also events that CYO has to offer.
- Scholarships are available.

CYO Annual Retreat is less than a month away during Labor Day weekend, September 5-7! New and returning CYO Symphony and Symphonic students must register by August 15 at sdcyo.org. This 3-day retreat in Julian, CA is a tradition that fosters musical growth and sets the tone for a new performance season of fun, collaboration, and excellence.

Congratulations to students on a great concert today to close out Summer Workshop 2026. Thank you to conductors Shannon Yandall, Paul Wang, Jonathan Ingber, and Alyze Dreiling for their dedication in developing these young musicians, as well as Lynne and Charlotte for running another successful program. Today was CYO’s last rehearsal. We close out our season tomorrow at Concert Finale in the CCAE Concert Hall with Symphony and Symphonic orchestras and special performances with a combined orchestra joined by other CYO ensemble members and our 2026 Solo Competition winner performing with Symphony.

CYO’s Music Celebration Concert last weekend was a huge success! Our students’ growth in confidence, technique, and musicality shone brightly on stage. A big thank you to our talented conductors, Shannon Yandall, Paul Wang, Jonathan Ingber, and Alyze Dreiling, for their outstanding work and dedication to music education! Congrats to all! 👏🎻🎺

CYO Summer Workshop 2026 registration is now open! This week-long workshop is open to everyone, including students who are new to CYO and ensemble playing. Our professional conductors and staff offer coaching and ensemble rehearsals that culminates in a final performance on the last day, July 17 at 11 am.

Registration deadline is June 30, 2026. All CYO Prelude, Intermezzo, Intermediate, Chamber, and Wind Ensemble members are required to attend summer workshop.
