Last week’s lesson was a reverse pastel print. Students did a pencil drawing first. Next we covered the opposite side of the drawing with heavy oil pastels. A clean sheet of paper was attached to it and with black pen we “redrew” our sea turtles. Our oil pastels were transferred to the clean sheet creating a colorful replica. Took two classes to develop these beauties. Their hard and persistent work proved well worth the effort. You can find this process on my YouTube channel. Everyone enjoyed this lesson!

My elementary school students enjoyed recreating colored glass. I challenged them with the use of crayons as our color choices were much better than pastels. Individual styles and their personal visions really came together beautifully. Watching each class tackle our objective of transparency was inspiring. Such gifted kiddos! .

We studied Picasso and his colorful abstract still life paintings last week. Students were again given a black and white printout of a still life, water based markers and the freedom to be creative. A variety of color concepts and design features came to life in their work. These are just a handful of the spectacular artworks produced by elementary school students. Picasso would be proud. •

Another shout out to my students. Our symmetry lesson caused some grumbling but once I showed them how a ruler and measurements could help it went smoothly. These kids always amaze me. I finally managed to have a photo of each grade level in this post. From kindergarten through fifth grade the symmetrical eagles were executed beautifully. I absolutely love my job. •

Our adventure into Abstract Still Life was a huge success. Students had a black and white photocopy of a still life, an aqua-pencil, water and a paint brush. They Created gray tones along with solid blacks which enhanced their spectacular abstract paintings. All grade levels participated in this lesson and each students artwork was captivating. Such a wonderful experience for all of us. •

Another example of salvaged art. My watercolor was not quite satisfying so, I grabbed the Conte Crayons and spruced it up. When you practice and have leftover (unsatisfying) pieces it’s time to get creative. You’ll see what a frame does for your artwork too!
If your interested I posted a reel of my process.

The art of quilling was much anticipated by my students. During the artistic process they learned patience, old world craftsmanship and were rewarded greatly. These first through fifth graders worked so hard and never (rarely) gave up as it is a delicate art form. Again so very proud and grateful to these student and their abundant skills. •

Spotlight artist today is Paul Klee. Using his simple, almost primitive style, we learn how to make a one line drawing. His painting “Senecio” is almost mask-like with his use of geometric shapes and simple colors. You’ll challenge yourself with the one line drawing and be rewarded with choosing your color pallet. This Bonus lesson is out on my YouTube channel today-Art with Miss Linda-definitely a lesson for the whole family to enjoy! •

Our printmaking segment is finished today using organic materials. Mono prints are made focusing on the raised veining of leaves. Basic materials and natural positioning creates texture and beauty. We learn how to make a new tool to enhance our printmaking experience. You can find this lesson and much more on my YouTube channel-Art with Miss Linda. •

Sharing stills from today’s time-lapse reel. When watching it seems so simple yet there is a process behind it. One must first sketch out the subject, a trial run is a must before filming(last photo). Once I am confident it’s lights, camera (iPhone) action! Watercolor markers and a ruling pen make it happen. I am a fan of frogs 🐸 •
