Maddy, represented Generations Forward Learning Farm at the Auburn University Aquaponics Conference!

As the lead of our Generations Forward AquaHarvest Program, Maddy is our resident aquaponics expert, always learning, always asking questions, and always looking for innovative ways to expand the educational experiences we offer our community.

This conference provided valuable opportunities to connect with industry leaders, explore cutting-edge aquaponics systems, and gather ideas that will directly benefit our students, beginning farmers, and visitors.

One project we're especially excited about is exploring the addition of freshwater prawn tanks to our farm in the near future. Imagine learning how to raise freshwater prawns alongside fish and plants in a sustainable aquaponics system, right here at Generations Forward Learning Farm. That's the kind of hands-on, real-world education we're committed to bringing to our community.

The future of Generations Forward AquaHarvest is bright, and this is just the beginning.

🐠🌿The Magic School Fish Bus: Building Living Ecosystems🌿🐠

This week, we had the opportunity to spend time with the incredible students of Camp WIN at Charles Henderson Middle School for our Generations Forward AquaHarvest Aquaponics class, and what a day it was!

The students built their own mini aquaponics ecosystems, learned how fish and plants work together in a closed-loop system, explored concepts like sustainability, water conservation, food production, and STEM in agriculture, and most importantly, they had an absolute blast doing it.

Watching those lightbulb moments happen when students realize that fish can help grow plants and plants can help clean water never gets old.

Personally, this day was extra special for me because it was my first time back in an actual classroom teaching in years. Walking back into that environment felt a little like coming home. The energy, the questions, the laughter, and the excitement reminded me why I fell in love with education in the first place.

I even picked up something new myself, apparently the students decided my education wasn't complete until I learned the Scuba dance. I can't promise I've mastered it yet, but I gave it my best effort!

A huge thank you to Camp WIN and Charles Henderson Middle School for welcoming Generations Forward Learning Farm into your summer programming. Partnerships like these are exactly how we grow the next generation of scientists, conservationists, innovators, and agricultural leaders.

We are already looking forward to creating even more hands-on learning experiences and partnerships during the upcoming school year.

The future of agriculture is bright, and after spending the day with these students, I can confidently say it is in very good hands. 🌱🐟💧
