🚧 We're trading field trips for hard hats and harvest baskets for tool belts for the next few weeks! 🚧

Generations Forward Learning Farm will be temporarily closed to visitors while we complete several exciting construction and improvement projects across the property. We anticipate reopening in mid-August and can't wait to welcome everyone back!

While we're sad to press pause for a few weeks, we're incredibly excited about what this work means for the future of the farm. Every improvement is helping us create an even better experience for our students, families, homeschool groups, military families, and visitors.

Over the next several weeks, we'll be busy building, planting, creating, and preparing for an amazing fall season filled with learning, exploration, and memory-making. From new educational spaces to expanded farm experiences, the future is looking bright at Generations Forward.

Thank you for your patience, support, and encouragement as we continue to grow. This farm has been built one dream, one project, and one helping hand at a time, and we're grateful you're part of the journey.

On today’s episode of “Survivor: Generations Forward Learning Farm Edition,” we braved post-storm conditions to track down a chanterelle goldmine! Nature said, “You shall have mushrooms!” And we said, “Yes, chef!” I had two of the kids as my trusty foragers—turns out, they’re natural treasure hunters.

🌧️🌱 Post-Flood Farm Check-In 🌱🌧️

After all the rain and flooding, we made our rounds at Generations Forward Learning Farm today to see what survived, what thrived, and what lessons Mother Nature had in store for us.

The good news? The pollinators were already back to work, the butterfly pea flowers are still showing off, the chamomile is hanging in there, and our little patch of purslane seems to think the flood was a spa day. 🐝🦋💜

And then there's the dill...

Y'all, the dill is officially as tall as me. Granted, we all know that's not exactly a difficult accomplishment, but still! 😂🌿 I walked up to it and had one of those "when did you get so big?" moments.

One thing farming teaches over and over again is resilience. Some blooms took a beating, some plants are flourishing, and some surprised us in ways we never expected. Every weather event becomes part of the lesson, and every walk through the farm tells a story.

Today’s story? We may have had a flood, but life is still growing.

🌱💚 Youth Leadership in Action! 💚🌱

Today our Generations Forward Trailblazers took on a new challenge at Lowe's shopping the clearance plant rack! 🌿

Instead of passing by the struggling plants, our students selected several "rescue plants" and will be researching different methods to bring them back to life. They'll track growth, monitor plant health, document interventions, and collect data to see what works best.

This is hands-on STEM at its finest combining agriculture, science, problem-solving, and real-world research while giving plants a second chance. 🌱📊🔬

Who knows? The saddest-looking plant today might become the biggest success story on the farm!

🌿 The Original Medicine Cabinet🌿

Long before pharmacies, our ancestors learned from the land. Willow bark, elderberry, garlic, nettle, plantain, lavender, thyme, and so many others were part of everyday life. They observed, experimented, and passed down knowledge from generation to generation.

Modern medicine has given us incredible advances, and I am grateful for both science and tradition. But somewhere along the way, many of us lost touch with the wisdom growing right outside our doors.

At Generations Forward Learning Farm, one of our goals is to reconnect families with the plants, herbs, and food traditions that sustained communities for centuries. Not because we're living in the past—but because understanding where we came from helps us build a healthier future.
