Hermitage Fall Programs
Though our beautiful Manasota Key campus has been temporarily closed due to damages from the hurricanes, we are NOT burying our heads in the sand!
With the help of some extraordinary Hermitage artists, our incredible partners, and a community that cherishes experiencing new work, we've been able to present multiple memorable programs, each with record turn-out and waitlist capacity!
THANK YOU for your unwavering support in this difficult time, and a special shout out to Selby Gardens - Marie Selby Botanical Gardens, Sarasota Opera, Venice Theatre, WestCoast BlackTheatre Troupe, DreamLarge, and all of the brilliant Hermitage Fellows and guest artists who helped to make this possible.
Please join us in supporting our Hurricane Recovery efforts, so we can continue to CELEBRATE ARTISTS and our vibrant community.

We are sharing this post below from Hermitage Artistic Director and CEO Andy Sandberg with a video of GAVIN CREEL generously introducing our 20th Anniversary Concert in 2022. The Hermitage stands with the entire Broadway community in asking the theater owners to dim the lights of ALL theaters to properly honor Gavin’s memory.
"As we're dealing with Hurricane Helene cleanup down at the Hermitage Artist Retreat, I keep thinking back to all my texts and calls with Gavin Creel during our recovery efforts from Hurricane Ian... just two years ago. As part of our fundraising efforts for Ian recovery, I performed a concert at the Van Wezel Hall, alongside some amazingly talented friends: Jeannette Bayardelle, Laura Bell Bundy, Leslie Rodriguez Kritzer, Ann Morrison, Rona Siddiqui, and Raleigh Mosely II. Gavin had a conflict that night so was not able to fly down to perform in the concert, but he sent this incredibly gracious video. I'm usually the one introducing others at the Hermitage, so to be introduced by Gavin in this way was incredibly special and memorable. I wanted to share this because I now have this crazy association between Gavin's care and concern for the Hermitage and what we're dealing with again now after Helene... plus I think it so beautifully captures Gavin's positive, can-do optimism and his inspiring spirit." ~ Andy Sandberg

Craig Lucas, Tony Award-winning playwright and Hermitage Greenfield Prize recipient
Craig Lucas, Tony Award-winning playwright and Hermitage Greenfield Prize recipient, expresses why the Hermitage matters now more than ever. “The Hermitage is invaluable to artists, to help us earn a living. I urge each and every one of you to support an organization that does more for artists in America than any I have encountered. It enabled me to keep a roof over my head. If you have a roof over your head, I urge you to help the Hermitage stay afloat, to thank the people at the Hermitage for bringing you this culture.”

Christopher Merrill
Our Fellows express why the Hermitage matters now more than ever. “It is in these times of digging deep that we find the things we most desperately need to say, and we make the greatest advances. It is exactly in these times when artists and writers will find out ways to help us live our lives. I hope that you will find a way to support the critical work of the Hermitage.,” says Christopher Merrill, poet, non-fiction writer, and director of University of Iowa’s International Writing Program. Theater lovers know that Broadway is singing on-line these days. Some of these songs are written at the Hermitage. Here’s a song from Broadway, filmed at your very own neighborhood Hermitage! When the beloved composer Adam Gwon was here recently. We invited Belle Babcock from Booker High School to sing with him, to the delight of 200 people. Here is “Clairvoyant”, from Adam’s musical SCOTLAND, PA, recently at the Roundabout Theater in NYC. We were happy to introduce the talented Belle to this well-respected musical theater composer. And delighted when he said, “When you get to New York, call me”.
