Mona is a trusted visionary and collaborator.
A while back the artist and gallerist Christian Millet gave me a real Metropolitan Peace patch from the artist collective War Boutique.
This jacket is a conversation around those ideas and their American interpretation. I wanted to create something that was subtle, like the patch itself, something that someone might misread until they got close or took the time to really "see".
Thats why the two universal symbols for peace dont appear anywhere✌️
If you aren't interested in metaphor stop reading.
*Symbols
•Olive branch/Peace:
The left shoulder is adorned with a dove an olive branch is in its mouth, the lapel a gold olive branch pin and the cuff is a gold olive branch patch 🕊
Seed bead Eagle (also on the left shoulder) is the Indian symbol for peace. see pics in comments
•Remembrance: all the buttons have been replaced by a stylized poppies.
~American Civilian Peace flag
Designed by my friend Dan McCall inspired by a proposal by one of the founding fathers. The vertical stripes were to distinguish the military from the civilian populations (the original has 13 stars)
~Liberty cuffs: a long standing naval tradition the Liberty cuff provided soldiers an opportunity for individually provided they couldn't be seen on duty. For this jacket we cut up a Claude Monett Lilly print (often associated with tranquility and peace) and lined the sleeve.
~Metropolitan Peace
American Civil forces like police and fire don't usually use black and silver like their European counterpart, instead we generally use blue and white. So I had a one-off blue/white American version made.
The authentic patch is inside the jacket.
~Mehterian patch

As many of our friends know Ive been sick for a very long time. Ive tried a business model of renting the Gallery to aspiring artists as a way to augment the energy required to run the business ... and truth be told, it broke my heart to see so many confronted by the reality of selling themselves. I really, REALLY dont like being the catalyst for failed dreams, so we abandoned that as a future possibility. In short Ive decided to close TALK gallery as a brick and mortar. Im still consulting, but there will be no future shows in Englewood.

We are terribly sorry to learn of the passing of the talented . His creative vision was a bright spot that shown on both the east and west coasts. We were very proud to bring his work to the center of the country. Rest in Power, sir ...

Visiting a clients home and giving two enthusiastic thumbs up to their placement of 's enormous 5x5 painting.
I love how the gentle curve of the stairwell draws your eye directly into the work.
Peter has been exploring Brazil for the past 6 months.
I understand hes found a place he believes he'll thrive.
I know his fans and supporters are excited to see how his new environment impacts the direction of his new work.
Cheers to you
Im looking forward to seeing 2025 through your eyes!

One of the most touching moments of our trip was a surprise.
One of Romania's great living artists is Mureşan Vasile
We stumbled upon his studio and he graciously spent a few hours with us.
Though Romania is part of the European Union they still struggle with discrimination.
Gay men and women live without the same rights as their heterosexual neighbors.
Romania's communist oppressors jailed or executed their gay citizens, thirty-five years later in a free society there still isn't marriage equality.
Murivale was in a committed, long term relationship with Mon Salai
In the throws of COVID Salai was hospitalized.
He suffered horribly and died alone because the authorities would not allow the person he was devoted to, to be near him, to comfort him, to hold him in his last moments.
As the story was being related to me in Romanian, Valentina translated into english.
Sentence after heartbreaking sentence; an echo of sorrow in two languages, everyone in the studio was moved to tears.streetartist was there, Mrs. TALK Gallery and my sister.
Murivale's compound exists as a memorial to Salai
Portraits measure in the thousands, possibly as many a ten.
Mon Salai's face is everywhere, plates and discarded pottery, pillows, canvases, stencils, trashcans and paper, its a obsession of one mans devotion and celebration to a relationship and person, lost.
When we left Murivale thanked me for listening and suffering the cold (I didn't dress appropriately) I was so humbled by the honesty and authenticity of this artist, I felt like I should apologize for the distraction of my shivering.

Imagine there was a group of 20 million people.
How many would be involved in street art?
A thousand?
At least a few hundred, right?
I mean, it cant be as little as a dozen, can it?
How about 2?
Romania is a country of twenty million people and almost every mural, every instance of color is the result of foreign artists.
Two native born Romanians are actively working IN Romania.
One of those two is Barto
(Worth the friend request)
Our little group met up with Barto in Bucharest.
He painted one of his spray cans for Lorraine and I.
We are so happy to add his rattlecan to our collection.
I suspect ours is the first of his cans in the United States.
