Here she is, out of the box, on her throne, and ready to bake! This is the Jen-Ken AF3C 11/9 tabletop ceramic kiln. I ordered upgraded solid state relays that will last probably longer than I will, as well as the TAP II Smart Controller for easy operation. I am so excited about this next chapter in my art. I’m going to make custom ceramic molds for my fused glass, small sculptures, and jewelry pieces that combine a little bit of my glass elements. I deliberated for years, or agonized really, on making this purchase. Then finally a little over a month ago, as I was sitting at my desk (in my moms old bedroom that is now my office) lusting over it on the Soul Ceramics website, I SWEAR I HEARD MY MOM’s VOICE say “buy it honey, just get it!” And that was all I needed. I felt it in my heart. When I was a small child, all the way through high school, my mom sat with me countless evenings at the kitchen table while I made small sculptures. First with Playdough as a little girl, then modeling clay, and then earthenware from art class in high school that had to be fired in a kiln. I’d take a lump of clay and ask her “what should I make tonight, Mom?” We’d sit at the table and talk while I made countless little sculptures. So when I heard her voice telling me to get it while sitting in her room, I knew it was the right decision. And I know that every time I sit down in the future to make something in clay, she’ll be right there next to me ❤️.

Here’s a better look at her! Please welcome Fiammetta (Fia for short- means “little flame” in Italian). We got her out of the box and on her stainless steel table. Her floor and shelves have been kiln washed and tomorrow, we ride!! And by ride, I mean we fire the test pieces I made 😁.

The new kiln is here!! I’m not great at making these videos, but here is my attempt at an unboxing video. There was so much packing inside that I couldn’t make everyone sit through that, but you can see it. I’ll be making another post directly after this to show the kiln without all the packing. I hope you’ll all share in my excitement!
