About the Play

Marvin's Room is a deeply moving and surprisingly funny family drama about love, responsibility, and the complicated bonds that hold families together.

After spending nearly two decades caring for her ailing father Marvin and her eccentric aunt Ruth, Bessie receives devastating news of her own: she has leukemia and needs a bone marrow donor. Her estranged sister **Lee**, who left years earlier to build a different life, returns with her two sons in hopes of reconnecting and helping Bessie through her illness.

✨ Every theatre company has a story. This is the beginning of our next chapter. ✨
After years of creating theatre, building community, and finding our way through several different landscapes and iterations of home, Dionysus Theatre Company is thrilled to announce our new collaboration with the Manchester Historical Society as their Artist-in-Residence.
In our 13 years as a company, we’ve called several spaces home. We’ve built sets in borrowed rooms, created art wherever we could find space to do it, and learned that a theatre company is never really its building — it’s its people. As we step into our new home as a company, we’re reflecting on the journey that brought us here, and the incredible communities that have supported us every step of the way. Each chapter helped shape who we are. And with Manchester Historical Society, we look forward to shaping our creative and artistic future!
This partnership brings together two organizations built on storytelling — one preserving the stories of our past and the other bringing stories to life on stage.Together, we’ll create performances, readings, educational programs, and community events that celebrate history, creativity, and connection.
Here’s to new spaces, new stories, and new possibilities. We can’t wait to share this journey with all of you.
Stay tuned — the next act is just beginning. 🎭

Aw, Dev... ever the romantic... 🤩❤️

If your character (or role) had a playlist, what song has to be on it?

“Stay Young, Go Dancing" by Death Cab for Cutie. There is a lyric in it that says “Cause when she sings, I hear a symphony, and I’m swallowed in sound. As it echoes through me, I’m renewed”. I feel like that is exactly how Dev feels about Mash and her music.

Stupid F # Bird: Mapleton Hall. Be there.
