Word to the wise!

Remember, goldenrod species (and there are many, like this Oligoneuron rigidum) do NOT cause hayfever -- that'd be are also-native Ambrosia species or ragweed. The latter puts out TONS of wind-borne pollen, while the former's pollen is sticky and heavy to the point you'd have to really rub your face in it to get a reaction.

What's more concerning, though, is that the solidago bloom succession has begun and summer is now officially over. Sorry. Here at HQ and in client spaces succession tends to go thusly:

Oligoneuron rigidum (by a hair)
Solidago speciosa
Solidago nemoralis
Solidago flexicaulis

We've got some other species but those are the big four.

So again for those in the back: GOLDENROD species do NOT cause HAYFEVER -- that's RAGWEED.

Goldenrods ARE HOWEVER freaking MEGA FOOD for many pollinators, and thus good hubs of food for spiders and other beneficial predators. Vast little cities of incredible wildlife lemme tell ya.

🍃Our Fall semester approaches and we're preparing a weekly, all-ages (kids encouraged!) Good Way Garden Club meeting where we cultivate gratitude and play with creative crafts that celebrate the natural world.

We're bringing in our friend Amanda B. to facilitate the craft, and Potawatomi Cultural Worker and GWG Founder, Elexa Dawson will lead a conversation on the Haudenosaunee Thanksgiving Address 🍂

🌻 Join EFOZ to play Botanical Bingo for a chance to learn about and win beautiful plants from the City of Emporia Horticulturalists. Tickets are $20 per person and include 2 Bingo Cards and 1 signature drink made from local botanical ingredients!

🎟 Tickets can be purchased at the Zoo Education Center M-F 8-5pm; by calling 620-341-4365, or at the Door. All ticket proceeds support the David Traylor Zoo.

🌸Volunteer opportunities include sweeping floors, flat-pack furniture building, compost management, and mowing/weed eating - there's lots of GOOD WORK to do and the best way to find out how to help is to show up to a concert, make an appointment with Elexa, or just catch us when we've got the "OPEN" light on ;)

🎸Attention Acoustic Jammers! (Especially Holly, Jerry, Luke, and Rodney!) We're cutting out at 5 to make time for Sc**at Belly's sound check.
🥕Dinner is at 6! Show at 7! Students eat free, we're having stir fry with chicken and rice (meats optional, gluten-free)!

🧶Wednesday is ALSO Fiber Arts Night. We want to thank the FANs for their patience as we get schedules lined up. The kids have been rowdy in the living room, so the crafters will get it back to themselves on ALL the Wednesdays in September!
