How it Began
With the news that I was going to need a second cervical fusion came the sad realization that summer was not going to be what we had hoped and planned for. Although he took the news like a champ, my soon to be 11 year old was told that we were not going to be able to do an escape room with his friends for his birthday after all. “But,” I suggested, “maybe we can do a mini version of one at the house instead?” That’s when it hit me. Why not make a real one? Emmett can use some other entertainment options and we have space in our barn. I would do construction type stuff prior to the surgery and plan the puzzles while I recovered. The first theme, Davy Jones’ Locker, was a no-brainer since I had numerous ocean related items from teaching Oceanography. And so it began. Logos, licenses, ciphers and keys, a life sized skeleton, and most recently, insulation. Who knows? If all goes well, maybe it will become an “escape barn” with several rooms and different themes. The possibilities are endless.
