When in Oklahoma City, it seems like Mexican is the food to eat. We went to Abel's for lunch yesterday. Pictured here are a very contented SM and A1 after a satisfying meal. San Marcos may have a slight edge- there was a certain sparkle to the flavor of the rice and beans, just the perfect level of salt and seasoning, that Abel's didn't quite reach. That being said, Abel's was quite able to scratch the itch for Mexican food.

I want to take a moment here to sidebar about queso. There are two small cups of queso clearly visible- another two cups, blocked from view, also contained queso. Out of frame, there were at least three more. The massive quantity of queso we received to go along with our chips only enhanced the experience. I truly think that one can never have enough queso. I sincerely hope that this torrent of chili and cheese continues unabated as we continue to explore the culinary options in OKC.

It's time for another tech! San Marcos Mexican Restaurant has everything one would want from Mexican food- lots of flavor, large portions, and a wide selection of tequila. The flautas, pictured here along with a nice reposado, were a perfect welcome to OKC. Highly recommended.

Going back to York, PA for Elf 2017 with this one. We discovered a Puerto Rican restaurant, Mi Caldero, that served what I (Patrick) would consider to be the best food in York. Their Pollo Guisado, pictured below, was an absolutely perfect counterpart to the snowy Christmas musical. That being said, everything at the restaurant was good, the owner was a delight, and it was easy to hit on an hour meal break. Make sure you stop by if you're ever in York.

Lunch today doesn't have a picture, because it needs none. Turtle Leaf Cafe has been a mainstay not only to us but to many on the Neverland team. Now, I'm not exactly sure what a turtle leaf is. I picture a turtle in a rainstorm, finding shelter from the elements under a leaf. Despite the pouring rain and the harsh wind, that turtle knows that it has safe harbor.

I feel similarly about Turtle Leaf Cafe. No matter my call time, no matter the projects on work list, I know that there'll be a warm breakfast sandwich (with an extraordinary helping of bacon) and coffee worth drinking. When I need a lunch in Elmira that isn't bar food or Chinese, Turtle Leaf is there, with delectable smoothies (served in steins that would put Oktoberfest to shame) and delicious panini.

Now, some might say that the fare at Turtle Leaf Cafe is plain- it is mostly sandwiches. But we're all just turtles caught in a storm, and sometimes all it takes is a Turtle Leaf to make our days a little better.

Throwback to "Sound of Music" day off where we visited 8 breweries and a winery. Great day of drinking beer. There is a picture of Patrick and Colin fresh at the beginning of the day and a picture of Colin, Erin, and Patrick at the end. It was a lot of drinking.

Tonight we were redeemed. We went back to the unnamed restaurant. I went with a hint of Mexico and was pleasantly surprised with the generous portion of steak and the over-abundance of cheese. I seriously can't recommend this restaurant enough, but I cannot tell you what the name is or where it is.

Everything about this lunch had me excited. First of all, who doesn't want pancakes for lunch? And this place held the potential for being a revelatory experience in diner chic. Upon entering Anne's Pancakes I felt as though I was transported into another time. A wholesome time before the internet and possibly before hardwired telephones. It's starting to feel like Elmira itself is a city frozen in amber perfectly preserving something that has been sadly lost. Patrick and I sat and relished every misspelled word on the menu from the homemade "Chile" to the "Omlets". It woke up our taste buds and the potential flavors danced in that special part of the tongue reserved only for Umami.

We finally ordered. I went with Anne's Eye Opener (2 eggs your way, 2 bacon, 2 sausage, and 2 pancakes). All for the unbelievable price of $5.69. Patrick went rogue ordering the hash. I capped my order with a cup of decaf, because there's no monkey on my back. The coffee arrived like a Chekhovian sign of the dangers of the upcoming industrial revolution. Suffice it to say, that we should've pulled the plug on this meal at the first sip, but the bounty that was headed our way was just too tempting.

As I sawed through the double stacked of flat white pancake adorned with generic syrup, I enjoyed the characters scattered around this makeshift eatery. I took my first bite. I honestly wasn't sure my teeth were up to the challenge of chewing through this doughy disaster. I moved to the bacon as a bit of a respite. It's hard to mess up bacon, but apparently it is possible to make it forgettable and bland. I drank two glasses of water with the gusto of a sea captain rescued after five days at sea to wash the taste out of my mouth, but Anne's Pancakes were too powerful. Alas... back to the theater.

This past Saturday we ate at a restaurant that will remain nameless because it is a hidden little gem. This restaurant has zero presence online. No website. No menu. And we would not want to ruin their mystique by publishing their name. It looks like a burned out building on the outside, but the inside is quite special. It is kind of like the Tardis. The menu includes a section entitled "A Hint of Mexico", but most of us chose to order from the section titled "Pastabilities", which was very reminiscent of Chicken Reggis in Utica. If you can figure out what and where this is, then we highly recommend you dine here.

Last Friday we had lunch at the Beijing Garden, which looks like it is right out of a Quinten Tarantino movie. I (Shannon) had an impressively uninspired Hunan Beef that incorporated a delectable mushroom, as pictured, that would bring back bad memories for Stormy Daniels.
