The Arnot Art Museum is a landmark jewel of the art world in downtown Elmira, New York. Housed in the 1833 neo-classical Arnot family mansion, it is one of the last remaining private art collections formed in the 19th century still exhibited in its original showcase. Arnot added a picture gallery in the 1890โ€™s and bequeathed his home and collection in 1910 to become the Arnot Art Museum, which opened to the public three years later. A 1985 addition by Graham Gund Associates provides additional exhibition galleries. The Museum displays a Permanent Collection of 17th - to 19th โ€“century European paintings, 19th- through 21st- century American art and collections of Asian and Egyptian artifacts. Temporary exhibitions highlight various aspects of the collections and include works from museums around the world.

First Friday Happy Hour is inspired by the spirit of our founder, Matthias H. Arnot, who regularly opened the doors of his home and welcomed the public to enjoy his art collection.

During Happy Hour, wander through the Museum and experience Mr. Arnotโ€™s remarkable 1890s Picture Gallery, along with the art currently on view in our contemporary West Wing and galleries throughout the Museum.

This regional juried exhibition showcases an expansive range of artistic expression. Bringing together artists from across the region, the exhibition highlights diverse approaches, materials, and perspectives, offering visitors an exciting look at the breadth and vitality of contemporary regional art.

Join us for a short-form life drawing session utilizing an undraped model in a variety of poses. This is a 2.5 hour class starting with 5-minute poses for gestural warm-ups, moving to 15-30 minute and longer poses. There will be a mid-session break. Expert and novice artists alike are welcome to hone their skills in a friendly, supportive atmosphere facilitated by a Museum educator.

During the Museumโ€™s annual three-week closure, Associate Curator ๐๐ž๐ค๐š๐ก ๐Œ๐ž๐ซ๐ญ๐ฎ๐ฌ and Maintenance Manager ๐Š๐ž๐ง ๐Œ๐จ๐ซ๐ญ๐ž๐ง๐ฌ๐ž๐ง are busy preparing the galleries for the fall and winter season. Following the de-installation and load-out of summer exhibitions, walls are repaired and painted, galleries are refreshed, and dozens of works are received and recorded for the upcoming season.

Artwork is carefully staged in its assigned gallery before installation. Hanging systems are inspected, reinforced, or added as needed. Every work is moved, even over short distances, according to Museum protocol to ensure its safety and integrity. Itโ€™s a meticulous processโ€”and one that depends on careful planning and teamwork.

So much has been happening behind the scenes during the Museumโ€™s annual gallery closure!

The galleries will have fresh and surprising look when doors re-open on 29 September. Staffers are working on repairs, painting, and installation of art for the upcoming season.

It was an evening of warmth and discovery, inspired by the colors, flavors, music, and hospitality of Morocco and North Africa. Lanterns and candles cast a warm glow as the strings and rhythms of traditional music filled the air. The scents of incense and spice mingled with the aromas of food, served generously on platters throughout the evening. Sweetened mint tea and fruited red w**e were enjoyed, while the captivating artistry of dance brought energy, expression and celebration to the evening.

The final 2026 Four Columns Project benefit recently took place. ๐‘จ๐’ ๐‘ฌ๐’—๐’†๐’๐’Š๐’๐’ˆ ๐’Š๐’ ๐‘ด๐’๐’“๐’๐’„๐’„๐’ brought guests together for an immersive evening of North African-inspired culture while raising vital funds for the ongoing restoration and renovation of the Museum.

Thanks in part to these supporters, the Four Columns Project moves forward to provide critical improvements at the Museum. Enjoy the candid photographs from this special event.

The final 2026 celebration benefiting the Four Columns Project took place last weekend in Elmira, New York. ๐‘จ๐’ ๐‘ฌ๐’—๐’†๐’๐’Š๐’๐’ˆ ๐’Š๐’ ๐‘ด๐’๐’“๐’๐’„๐’„๐’ brought guests together for an immersive evening of North African-inspired food, music, dance, and culture while raising vital funds for the ongoing restoration and renovation of the Museum.

A very special thank you to our gracious host, Jennifer Gladston Butler, whose beautiful property, The Knoll, provided an extraordinary setting for the evening.

Join us for a short-form life drawing session utilizing an undraped model in a variety of poses. This is a 2.5 hour class starting with 5 minute poses for gestural warm-ups, moving to 15 and 30 minute poses. There will be a mid-session break. Expert and novice artists alike are welcome to hone their skills in a friendly, supportive atmosphere facilitated by a Museum educator.

Participants must be 18 years of age or older. Registration accepted until sessions are full.
