Why Make Art?

As an artist, art therapist, and mother, it is my belief that only two types of action exist in the universe: creative action and destructive action. Anything other than one of these two is simply inaction. When we tell our children that we want them to make good choices, what we are really saying is that we wish them to be “creative.” Creative action puts something into the world. Destructive action takes something away. We want our children to contribute to the betterment of the planet. We want them to think in ways that not only benefit their own development and sense of well-being, but also benefit the development and wellbeing of others. When we help them to think in creative ways, we empower them to make the world a better a place.

I make art. I encourage other people to make their art too. I believe that creativity connects us with our authentic, true Self.
