Join artist and educator France Hilbert for a two-day workshop exploring nature and urban sketching. Participants will learn to frame a scene, simplify landscapes and architecture into essential shapes, and create expressive drawings inspired by the streets and natural details around us.

The first week of six has passed for Summer of Clay but there is still plenty left to make!

Individual registration remains open for the remaining Tuesday and Thursday classes, with limited spots available throughout the series. For Week Three: Drinking Vessels, Thursday is the only date still available.

Choose your project and join us for an evening of handbuilding at 16 State. All materials and firing are included, and no experience is needed.

A pop-up cyanotype workshop is happening next week!

On Wednesday, August 5, from 2PM – 5PM, participants will explore this cameraless photographic process using sunlight, seasonally foraged plants, and everyday objects to create prints on paper and cotton fabric patches.

No experience is needed, all materials are provided, and participants are welcome to bring objects of their own to print with. Open to adults and youth. Participants under 14 must be accompanied by an adult. Space is limited to 15 participants.

Coming to Downtown: Twelve Maine Women: Portraits of Change

This August, the Frances Perkins Center and Heart of Ellsworth will co-host an exhibition from Americans Who Tell the Truth featuring portraits by Maine artist Robert Shetterly.

The exhibition recognizes Maine women whose courage, leadership, creativity, and commitment to change have shaped communities in Maine and beyond. Featured figures include Frances Perkins, Samantha Smith, Heather Cox Richardson, Sherri Mitchell, Deqa Dhalac, Margaret Chase Smith, and others.

A free public reception is on Thursday, August 6, from 5PM – 8PM at the 16 State Street in Ellsworth. It will remain on view through September 25, with public discussions and creative programming taking place throughout its run.
